11-11-11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War 1.  Major hostilities of World War 1 were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of Armistice.

November 11, 2011, Veterans Day is an annual U.S. holiday honoring military veterans.

U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed an Armistice Day for Nov 11, 1919.  In proclaiming the holiday he said..." To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service."

1952, Emporia, Kansas, Stephan Riod owner of a shoe repair shop had the idea to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans, not just those who died in World War 1.

STAY TUNED:
