Carolyn A. Brent, MBA, is an American author, elder care legislation advocate, and inspirational speaker. She is best known as the author of the best-selling books, The Caregiver’s Companion and Why Wait? She is the founder of Caregiver Story, a nonprofit organization that provides free medical and legal resources to the public through a powerful website that attracts up to over one hundred thousand visitors monthly. She is also a former member of the board of directors of Alzheimer’s Services of the East Bay, an organization serving families in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Carolyn Brent travels throughout the United States, lecturing about the importance of adult siblings and their parents having what she calls “crucial conversations” in preparation for the end-of-life issues they may face. One of her special skills is helping families avoid being torn apart and helping families come together as a much stronger family unit. As a result of her work, families have the opportunity to create the type of supportive, loving environment their parents need in order to depart this world with dignity. About The Author : Carolyn passion was ignited when she was caring for her own father, who was diagnosed with dementia in 1997. From that experience, she found that neither she nor her family truly understood the medical challenges related to aging and chronic illness, or the financial and emotional weight of these issues on the family. He worked to design and develop biomedical devices, including an implantable glucose sensor, and co-authored many articles that can be found in publications such as Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics and Analytical Chemistry. Turning his focus from the body to the soul, he's spent over 10 years studying relationships to help people better connect so they feel valued, heard, and appreciated. A few years ago, his wife's grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. And even though Coty thought he had a good grasp on relationships, he soon learned there was a whole other world where relationships take on an entirely new meaning. He had to begin thinking outside box and digging deeper to try to go outside of what was the normal advice for building better relationships into a world that doesn't have the same kind of rules and certainly doesn't abide by what would be considered 'standard.' The entry into the this world of Alzheimer's and care-giving was completely unexpected and provides daily challenges. But he and his wife's desire to ensure that his grandmother in law stays as happy and as peaceful as possible, while maintaining her integrity, is first and foremost on their minds.
