Women (and Legends) Who Really Rock! with Carmen Milagro

Recent inductee into the International Museum of Women in San Francisco, Carmen Milagro takes you on a creative & musical journey every week, and celebrates "Women and Legends Who Really Rock! You can "rock" as an artist you can rock as a "vocalist, a writer, a lyricist, the leader of the band".…BUT you can also rock as a human being, as a "leader, caretaker or role model for children", and “rock” as a vehicle for social change or you can rock as a “parent, teacher or shaman”... that’s my personal definition of someone who REALLY rocks. I created these shows Women and Legends Who REALLY Rock! as a means to feature, nurture, encourage, support and give voice to those who are changing their world! These are people of all ages, ethnicities and lifestyles who are involved in any way shape or form in music, business, film and video, any of the arts, education & parenting, media, design and even politics. Basically, on the radio show we’ll just “talk” on the phone, something we do every day of our lives, we'll share stories and ideas, play some music, tell you about special events, answer your questions and will primarily, feature interviews with musical colleagues, friends and celebrities in the entertainment business too!

What I learned today at my "TRAUMA" audition

What a fun experience today! So I got called yesterday for my very first TV audition for NBC's new show called "Trauma". It airs on Monday nights and it's shot here in SF (Who knew? Ummm, I guess alot of FBookers did!) THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT. It really made me smile all during the entire process. ....I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!

I guess I'll have to watch next week's episode (at the very least) JUST so I can say I know about it and get an idea of what I auditioned for today. ....

     ....

So, yesterday my agent tells me they are looking for a "young-ish" and "hip" Latina mom. Having never watched the show, you would think that because this is NOT what I do (act) I would have been nervous but I wasn’t at all. What I did find out a couple of hours before the audition was that they were looking for a Latina to play “Marisa’s” mom. Marisa is 24 years old…maybe it’s a good thing I had no preconceived notions:o) “What the heck!”, I said,  “I'll try it and trust my instincts.” ....

     ....

I went into the audition as me, simply me but with a little eye shadow on and I embraced my greys and wrinkles even more!....

     ....

By the way, we didn’t REALLY use the script I had been told to memorize…she was looking for more of a “connection” between our characters, so once again there I was flying by the seat of my pants! After the read the CD (casting director) seemed very pleased with my attempt and she said here are the “pros”:....

    1)     Apparently my would-be daughter looks like me....

    2)     I looked very young for my age....

    3)     Great that I speak fluent Spanish but with no accent....

    4)     LOVED my boots....

     ....

Where there are pros there are always “cons”:....

    1)     “They” might think I am too young-looking and might confuse me as Marisa’s sister....

    2)     I looked too “glamourous” – huh?....

The entertainment industry is funny. Just goes to show you NEVER know in this business…

Eh! Whatever happens happens! I had fun! And one thing I know and continue to confirm to myself, I am not afraid to take risks. I am not afraid to just try...after all what have I got to lose? Nothing and I have new material for a blog:o)

I suppose there are worse things to be rejected on than being “too young-looking for my age” or “too glamourous” but right now I don’t really have time to think on it, I have rehearsal at 9pm, a TV interview taping tomorrow morning at KPIX/CBS for Bay Sunday and a gig at Carlos’s restaurant Maria Maria in Mill Valley on Saturday.....

    Gotta run! Ciao! ....

    Hasta la proxima!
