11/24 WATCH! Carmen Milagro on Bay Area Vista with Janice Edwards 7:00pm on KCSM-TV, on Channel 17.http://www.bayareavista.com. Don't miss this TV show!

Women (and Legends) Who Really Rock! with Carmen Milagro

Recent inductee into the International Museum of Women in San Francisco, Carmen Milagro takes you on a creative & musical journey every week, and celebrates "Women and Legends Who Really Rock! You can "rock" as an artist you can rock as a "vocalist, a writer, a lyricist, the leader of the band".…BUT you can also rock as a human being, as a "leader, caretaker or role model for children", and “rock” as a vehicle for social change or you can rock as a “parent, teacher or shaman”... that’s my personal definition of someone who REALLY rocks. I created these shows Women and Legends Who REALLY Rock! as a means to feature, nurture, encourage, support and give voice to those who are changing their world! These are people of all ages, ethnicities and lifestyles who are involved in any way shape or form in music, business, film and video, any of the arts, education & parenting, media, design and even politics. Basically, on the radio show we’ll just “talk” on the phone, something we do every day of our lives, we'll share stories and ideas, play some music, tell you about special events, answer your questions and will primarily, feature interviews with musical colleagues, friends and celebrities in the entertainment business too!

Dennis Chambers and Carmen Milagro in the Studio at last!

The most recent experience I had in the studio was working with the GREAT, the PHENONMENAL Dennis Chambers, one of the most talented drummers on earth and certainly one of the most generous musicians I have ever had the opportunity to meet and have the honor and privilege to call my friend! Some of you may recognize him as Santana’s drummer and after 7 years on the gig he is most certainly known as THAT Dennis Chambers BUT Dennis has been playing since he as a little guy at the age of 4 and by 6 he was already playing in nightclubs under his mother’s watchful eye…but you know, this is quite simply a story he should tell on my radio show ...and Legends Who REALLY Rock! Or on camera when I get a chance to interview him…oh wait we did! (Video coming soon!)

As far my recording session let me say this, earlier this week, I had Dennis Chamber’s talents all to myself and working with my producers Marquinho Brasil and Rich Armstrong at Moon Dog Studios in Alameda, CA. Usually, I have words tumbling around in my head and begging to be expressed but for the last few days, I cannot seem to properly explain the ENORMITY of it all and how MONUMENTAL it was to work with my friend and mentor Dennis Chambers…THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart seems like such a small thing to say and yet, it creates a profound emotion in my soul when I think of the gift that Dennis has shared with me and not only that, he’s bestowed his blessing upon my new upcoming MILAGRO cd - Leyendas y un MILAGRO (Legends and a Miracle). His support and his enthusiasm is priceless to me! He actually thanked ME for inviting him to participate in it… can you believe that???!!

For me, there is simply nothing more beautiful in life right now than this project…I am seemingly in heaven and at peace every day we work in the studio and it looks like we have a few more incredibly talented and generous human beings who are gravitating towards this MILAGRO project. I am humbled by the pure kindness and generosity I am being wrapped up in…it is unbelievably magical. That’s all I can say. It is MAGIC, the respect, the camaraderie and above all my music coming to life...with a little help from my friends!

Dennis Chambers recording with me too!

Just when you think it can't get any better than this, along comes a phone call, all the pieces come together from scheduling to attitudes, to just plain being ready at the right time in the right space and the moon & stars align themselves as they help shape your destiny...

Eight years ago I met THE Dennis Chambers at the Santana show at Shoreline and soon we became friends. Later that same year in New York, his wife Renee took me under her wing and taught me the "ropes" for hangin' backstage...

Six years later at another Santana show with my little baby 4 year-old niece we hung out backstage again as he brought her chocolate cake and balloons....I had officially become chopped liver:o)

Four years ago I told myself (in my head of course, for fear of being locked up in a cozy little padded cell) that one day I would work with Dennis Chambers...

October 2008, at a Santana show in Concord, I blurted out to Dennis I was planning to record my new CD in the Spring of '09. He asked me a series of questions to which all I could say, I have several song ideas and I have no "exact" plan yet but I am working it out. I asked him if he would consider playing on it...he said "...You know I would as long as my schedule allows it Carm".
I called him a couple of months ago and said, " You are probably on the road but I'm ready I'm actually doing it, we have a recording schedule and if you are available please let me know. I would so love it if you would record with us".

In all honesty, I thought "What are the odds that he'll be free?" Zilch to none were my guess. Saturday Dennis called and said he was available, willing and able! What a lucky lucky girl I am! Dennis was on my "bucket" list long before the phrase was coined:o) I cannot wait!!! Cameras are ready to roll!!!

    The MILAGRO Recording Experience

After two 20 hour days of video pick up shots for my music video and our MILAGRO sessions, it is safe to say, I am a walking bundle of EXHAUSTED human cells, my back is spasming every 2 minutes, I have HUGE bags under my eyes as well as dark circles, my skin broke out due to lack of sleep, not eating properly and my sister's bike accident stress BUT it was THE most amazing experience of my life and worth every second and every single aching muscle....I will never forget this session as long as I live! 4 cases of beer (for for my band within 2 days), 1 bottle of Milagro Tequila and enough food to feed an army, I think this may have been one of THE best sessions ever!!! AND we had 2 videographers capture it all on tape!!! ! Because my band members chose to record on Easter weekend for my project and they were away from their families, I invited the wives and children to our BAND Easter feast and then all the women and children went in to record some vocal parts for the music video. It was the same vibe as we had last weekend!
We tracked 11 basic song tracks and now for the next few months we'll do all the overdubs and my vocals next week and record some more with a plan to complete the cd by end of 2009....I cannot wait!!!
As long as I live, I will NEVER forget my April 10-12 2009 recording session! To quote Oprah...I AM living my best life and could not ask for anything more, other than to have had my family with me at this pivotal MAGICAL musical point in my life, it is not a career, it is my LIFE as I had not truly been able to fully define it before this weekend!
And we're just getting started...I'm working on scheduling arrangements for my SPECIAL GUESTS:o)
BELIEVE me as soon they are all confirmed, I'll shout it to the world!

The 4/4/09 MILAGRO (Asi es la Vida) music video shoot

As you may or may not know on Saturday 4/4/09 after months and months of planning, some challenges and funny stories we finally shot our 2009 Music Video! I wish I was able to thank you all in person and I certainly hope I do not leave anyone out in this email  (If I do PLEASE forgive me and pass it on!)

There were a few things that I wanted to encapsulate in our music video:

    1) EXTREME JOY even in the face of adversity

    2) The DIVERSITY amongst our dancers, my friends, family and other people I love and care for!  (Find out who they are below)

    3) I wanted to RELIVE and RECAPTURE the essence of my childhood memories of wonderful life celebrations which included all sorts of lovely beautiful people from all walks of life, ages and ethnicities.

    4) The CREATIVITY and EXPERTISE of THE most amazing video crew ON THE PLANET!! (See below)

    5) The TALENTS and PERSONALITY of the MILAGRO Band!!

To THANK YOU and tell you what we created together exceeded my WILDEST expectations cannot begin to express how I feel, but it's all I have. I am actually quite speechless about what we were able to do together. NONE of it would  have been possible without each and everyone of you!  I feel such extreme admiration and respect for your talents, your dedication, professionalism and above all your beautiful glorious spirit. I am truly blessed to be connected to you and have each and every one of you in my life now who made this day, this event, this vision come to life! It was quite simply one of the most magical days in my life and I hope it was for you as well. Once again, we must thank Mike Bovo and his entire family for allowing us to use is personal residence as our magical set for the day as well a big huge shoutout to THE most terrific, best-looking fun-loving firefighters from Station 85 (Colma, CA)!

To me, from my perspective, it was a FLAWLESS shoot filled with wonderful crazy beautiful energy amongst the exhilarating madness from the amazing choreography, to the set design and shoot execution, to the incredible catering that kept everyone's juices flowing! I would love to hear about your experiences. I'd love for you all to spread the good word about MILAGRO on your Facebook, Myspace, Twitter accounts (mine is http://twitter.com/carmenmilagro, but I have yet to learn how to use it!) and of course, all the other social networks out there! I cannot wait to see the completed video (big plans) and please keep mid-July open for our OFFICIAL reunion wrap & digital release party...more details forthcoming soon!

In the meantime please tune into my weekly Women (and Legends) Who REALLY Rock! radio show on Fridays at 10:30am on blogtalkradio.com/carmen-milagro

Again THANK YOU so much please continue to read beyond the photo below to find out about our sponsors and all the lovely people you worked with on the shoot! I may not see you soon because we're going straight in to the recording studio for the next few weeks but you'll always reside in my heart! I could not have asked for a more perfect day, in every sense of the word! Gracias!
