    Caribbean Riddims Online Test

On Saturday, 30 August 2008, I experimented with an idea to stream a portion of Eddy Edwards' Caribbean Riddims radio show on BTR via the guestline. Aside from a couple of techical issues, the experiment was successful. I am commenting on the show to document the problems so I can fix them.

The first 3 minutes of this online test had some feedback because I had the station's internet stream on at the same time as the BTR stream. I found out you can't have both on the same computer. Once I shut the stream from the station off, the BTR sound stabilized. There is, however, a drop in the audio level that has to be compensated for by the listener.

Caribbean Riddims is the longest continually running Caribbean-oriented radio program in the Miami market. Eddy Edwards began Caribbean Riddims more than 20 years ago. Over the years, Eddy has been able to provide a platform for Caribbean entertainment and Culture, with an emphasis on Jamaica. Check out www.CaribbeanRiddims.com.

The show is on from 3 PM to 6 PM every Saturday on www.1360wkat.com, a 10,000 watt AM station in Miami.

My idea was to stream the 4 to 5 PM hour on BTR by using the guestline. I am calling this online show the Riddims Section.

The first portion of the hour is dedicated to 'People Politics.' Marlon Hill, a well known Miami attorney, calls in to talk about local and national politics. Marlon is an active advocate of voter registration and participation.

I do an eco-tourism oriented segment called Liquid Lounge at 4:30 PM. On the BTR show widget, I start at 30:45 and go to 35:00. Eddy and I talk about the annual Jerk Festival that Riddims Marketing produces and a little about BTR.

For some reason, there is silence from 39:40 to 48:20. We'll have to check to see why, but I suspect that one of the pods on the station's switchboard was muted.

From 59:00 to 59:15 there is some feedback caused by my attempt to talk over the phone feed. I wanted to close the show with a brief comment, but discovered I can not talk over the phone feed without feedback. I have to see if there is an alternative. If not, I would try to talkover it.

Generally speaking, I think it work well enough to try again next week. So, if you are interested in listening to an hour of Caribbean Riddims, come on back!
