Tonight we will celebrate the writing s of the great poet, writer and activist Maya Angelou. Many people know her by Phenomenal Woman and Still I Rise, but I want to read a few other poems to put her in a historical and personal context.

Maya Angelou made her transition this week on May 28, 2014-many a program, newspaper article and television and internet show has been done in her honor. People have brought up her past up to the moment she breathed her last breath.

I will not call it an obituary because the essence of the ancient understanding of an obituary is to speak well of God and not the body that lay before us or the spirit that inhabited it. That spirit was a part of the universal understanding of God, part and parcel of the essence of our creator as much as a drop of water from the ocean is a part of the who ocean.

We will speak well of God in this show and we will speak well of gods voice through Dr. Maya Angelou and many other poets, writers and Griot’s that must not be forgotten.
