Damar Services - Institutionalized child abuse in Indianapolis?

Today Candy hosts a prior employee of Damar Services, Inc. to discuss the tragic incident in which an older child beat a child nearly to death--who clings to life in the ICU. Despite being one of the largest non-profits in Indiana and having a budget of $39,000,000 per year,what you see is abuse, neglect, poorly paid and inadequately trained staff, begging the question - show me the money? Damar was founded in 1967 to help disabled children but its vision has been lost. It employs 750 people and it seems that in trying to take in everyone, they have lost the ability to help anyone. Damar receives 50% of funding from the Federal government and 25% from the State for residential treatment and education of children with development disabilities (autism, cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, behavioral problems, oppositional defiant and personality disorders). With $10,000 per month for each child it serves, Damar has approximately 2-5 qualified autism specialists for 60+ children and almost no assistive technology for the most impaired. Who would think to place sex offenders from the juvenile justice system alongside autistic kids when 9 of 10 autistic kids are bullied. Damar. Parents and community advocates need to mandate change!
