The SummerSmarks are here! The SummerSmarks are here! Yes, we are on a Friday instead of the day before Saturday as usual but that's because it's summer. We're busy too, y'know.

SummerSlam has 12 matches on the card, not including anything for the kickoff show. Every WWE title is on the line except the Intercontinental Championship. A Fatal 4-way match for the Universal Championship with Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman leaving WWE if Lesnar does not retain. SmackDown Live commissioner Shane McMahon will referee the US Championship match. Add in all the usual expected chicanery and on paper this event challenges WrestleMania for drawing power. It should be a good one. We will predict the works.

The momentum for New Japan Pro Wrestling continues to build around the globe, and the recently concluded annual G1 Climax tournament did nothing but help that trend. Two pools of eight competitors fight seven matches against all opponents in the pool for points, then the top point earners move on in a playoff format until it comes down to the last two standing for the Climax title. Over 90 matches in a little more than two weeks. All scheduled before the tournament starts. There was some outstanding action for the history books and we will review it.

The lineup for this round of predictions, bitches, rumours and shoots is as follows. (All advertisements regarding appearances are subject to blah, blah, blah. The actual card may change without notice)

  • Dave Temrick - author, current host of Mark Out Radio, former host of Loaded Dice Radio, all around pro wrestling supporter at all levels and veteran storyline analyst
  • Derick Thompson - former host of Loaded Dice Radio, avid pro wrestling supporter and The Smarks resident NJPW guru. He is our Gedo.
  • canadianglen - host of The View Up Here, reborn pro wrestling fan and soon-to-be NXT house show attendee

Tune in, smarks!
