An American Experience: Ira Aldridge and Sojourner Truth (STAGE PLAY) Two one-act plays about two extraordinary Americans Norfolk, Virginia – February 24, 25, 26, 2011 - The Venue on 35th Street Virginia Beach, Virginia - March 3 and 4, 2011 - Collective Arts Theatre (C.A.T.) - Inside Pembroke Mall – The Venue on 35th and The C.A.T will host The Green Room Players’ production of An American Experience: Ira Aldridge and Sojourner Truth – two one-act plays which will explore the lives of two African-American pioneers of the stage and podium; Ira Aldridge, a Shakespearean actor and Sojourner Truth, a former slave turned abolitionist and women’s rights advocate. As contemporaries in 19th Century America, they both fought against racism, cruelty and violence to have their voices heard – and they spoke volumes; making history and a difference, as they inspired others.
