Mr. Burrell attended the University of Kentucky and is a graduate of the School of Business at the University of Michigan in 1975.
He also served his country with distinction in the campaign for freedom in Southeast Asia in 1969 and 1970 in the Republic of South Vietnam.
Mr. Burrell is currently the president of the Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association, Incorporated (BFAA, Inc.). BFAA, Inc. is a Delaware corporation with it primary place of business in Memphis, Tennessee. BFAA, Inc. is an advocacy association with a membership of approximately 10,000 members located throughout the entire United States.
Mr. Burrell has testified before distinguished members of the United Sates House of Representative approximate seven times.
His leadership and advocacy has lead to the passage of legislation which has produced two of largest civil right class action lawsuits in the history of this county—Black farmer class action lawsuit of Timothy C. Pigford in 1999, and Pigford II of 2011.
African American farmers and their heirs have either received over $1 Billion Dollars in 1999, and are position to receive an addition $1.25 Billion Dollar in 2012, from a settlement with the United Sates Department of Agriculture for admitted racial discrimination against them.
