Join our conversation this week with Drew Borsz, whose career path took him outside the usual business world.
Imagine this as your resume: Special Forces Green Beret. Senior Noncommissioned Officer/Senior Communications Sergeant on an “A Team” in the Middle East.
Then: Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School creating and teaching Special operations Forces Adaptive Thinking and Leadership course. Your audience: Special Forces soldiers; American and international diplomats. Imagine being the person they ask to develop the Cultural Support teams- women soldiers trained to reach out and build trust with women and communities in what the army euphemistically calls “current operating theaters" e.g.: war zones.
How does someone from a small city in the American Midwest create a career like this?
What is the work of a warrior-diplomat? And how did this Green Beret become the go-to guy for developing culturally sensitive negotiation skills which are now appear to be an essential strategy for preventing the spread of terrorism? What does he know about moving beyond your comfort zones that can help us imagine what might be possible, and what might be next?
“Livelihood” is honored to be talking today with Drew Borsz, retired Special Forces Noncommissioned Officer, and president of AKB Solutions Group in North Carolina.

"the daily complaint"
Every weekday we answer client complaints on The Daily Complaint to provide direction and resources for both the person complaining as well as other consumers experiencing similar issues whether it be mortgage fraud, loan servicing escrow issues, loan modification runarounds or denials, short sale refusals, deed in lieu negotiations and credit card debt collector abuses and fraud violations.
I routinely look for posts to answer in hopes that it will not only bring optimism to those homeowners and borrowers in distress but also some basic information to assist in fighting the banks that are "too big to fail" like Bank of America and Citi but yet don't appreciate the bailout that we provided in their time of need. The debt collectors like Ocwen and Nationstar are simply just piranhas but they can be beat at their own game too just like the big banks can be defeated.
We are committed to answering consumer complaints and addressing everyday credit and debt issues on The Daily Complaint and I thank you for your continued support!
We hope you enjoy the Show...

THE DAILY COMPLAINT - LIVE WEEKDAYS AT 8:30 AM PT (CA) & 11:30 AM ET (NY)
Oro Valley, AZ – Most organizations are really good at what they do operationally. The challenge is inspiring people to function beyond operations. How do we get managers to care about the people they manage and employees to care about the organization they work for?
Dori Klass is the founder of Dori Klass & Associates, Inc., a coaching and consulting firm specializing in executive coaching, leadership education and communications training. The firm excels in working with people who are interested in bringing about a shift in culture, not just for their organizations but in their personal lives as well. For Dori, that process begins with engagement.
“I do a lot of one-on-one work and I do a lot of work in corporate settings, but the themes are the same for both: growth, trust, engagement, relatedness,” says Dori.
According to a recent study, approximately 75 percent of the North American workforce is completely disengaged at work. Employees are staring at their watches, counting down the hours until their retirement. They’re called the “quit-and-stayed” and that attitude is now systemic and institutionalized. That’s a crisis. So how do you wake people up?
“Quit-and-stay is no longer an option. That’s a recipe for a toxic environment, and given enough time, the company itself is going to suffer,” says Dori. “We’re about bringing engagement and inspiring a cultural shift.”
Dori says that process begins with organizations encouraging employees to be more engaged in their own lives, with a stronger sense of who they are and what they value. When people are more engaged personally, they can transfer that engagement to the workplace.

Join us today on Women Leading the Way Radio as Cecile Bereal, your host of Serving up Diversity, interviews Jan Slater, Founder of CareerConnection.me.
Jan is serving up a discussion on the behavioral assessment tool DiSC. Jan suggests DiSC is a tool your company can use to help team members thrive at work, help manage conflicts by understanding your employees different styles of communication, interaction and how they view the world. Learn how you can use DiSC to become more aware of these differences and relate better with others at work.
Jan Slater has been a career coach for 35 years. For the past 20 years she has specialized in working with CEO’s and executive teams. Jan loves to work with tools that give the participants useful information about themselves and others. When someone has the ability to understand themselves and everyone around them they can develop new strategies for inspiring and motivating all employees. Leaders can’t rely on the old “do I as tell you” model. They need to customize their approach to everyone!
Cecile Bereal is your host of Serving Up Diversity, a show designed to showcase the value of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and to examine best practices among stellar companies striving for a cohesive and diverse workforce.

Effective engagement requires both an individual and collective focus but it seems that many companies focus on engaging the individual rather than thinking about the collective units – teams. The basic unit at work is the team, with a line manager at the helm, and there’s an argument that human beings as social creatures require high levels of engagement with their social working environment as a pre-requisite to individual engagement. Is it a chicken or egg scenario? Should companies be focusing on both from different, or similar, angles? Either way, as more research looks at group effectiveness and inclusiveness at work, there’s doubt we need to focus more on engaging the collective as well as the individual.
Jamie Lawrence is editor of global online HR publication and community HRZone.com He regularly speaks to audiences of 250+ and has interviewed key HR industry names, including Daniel H. Pink.
