    Reaching your goals comes down to one very critical thing: staying motivated. Without motivation NOTHING will get done.
    The smallest success can be all you need to instill action. It's what gives you a belief in yourself and your ability to succeed. When you face obstacles, look at the small successes you've achieved so far. Be proud of those successes and feed off of them.
    Focus on what you can do each day.
    The big goal is your guide to where you want to go, but it's the daily small success steps you take that get you to it.
    If you want to lose weight, you move from buying a pedometer to walking 100 steps the first week. Then the next week you walk 150 steps. Each week you increase your steps each week, building on the previous week's success.   If you want to write a book, start with one paragraph a day for a week. Increase your writing the next week to two paragraphs, then a page, increasing your writing time over time until you have finished your book. If you want to eat healthier, start by eliminating one unhealthy food each week and adding a healthier version, then the next week replace another unhealthy food with a healthier version, and continue this successful system until you are eating only healthy foods.   If you want to be more organized at home or work, start by choosing one area (such as a desk drawer), then begin eliminating one unnecessary thing every few days, eventually getting rid of all clutter. By building on this small success you will have the confidence to organize other areas.

    Motivation takes many forms. For some, it is the end game—the promise of a goal yet to be achieved. For others, it is a collection of well-crafted rules and guidelines that narrow the path forward. No straying, no flailing. Eyes on the prize.
    While some high-performers eschew the idea of affirmation as a motivation—claiming it creates a false, fluffy reality—it has clear purpose as an impetus for growth.
    1. Bookend your day with self-affirmations—one in the morning and one at night.
    This is an ideal way to bracket the work you’ve done in a spirit of positivity and forward momentum.
    2. Whenever you accomplish something positive in your day, write it down. 
    At the end of the day or week, review the list to remind yourself of how often you do good deeds—for yourself and others.
    3. Don’t forget that YOU are as important as your peers and family.
    These affirmations aren’t just about what you accomplish to help and support other people.
    4. Remember: Little things are the big things. 
    We may think that a pat on the back or a smile during a co-worker’s stressful morning is of no consequence.
    5. Profess; don’t confess.

    Focusing on the benefits helps you see the reason you are working so hard. For example, after working out, when you're exhausted, you feel grateful.
    Focusing on the benefits of your goal gives you a sense of accomplishment. For example, a healthy lifestyle is a benefit of eating healthful foods and exercising.
    When things become difficult, you are tempted to quit. By focusing on the benefits of your goal, you can see the reasons you want to continue. Your difficulties will seem less.
    Very difficult goals (like losing weight) need extra motivation. Focusing on the benefits of losing weight can help you stay motivated to exercise.
    Focusing on the benefits of your goal instead of the difficulties allows you to focus solely on one specific step of the goal. For example, suppose your overall goal is to run a marathon. One of the steps is to run 3 miles a day.

    A list of things you’re grateful for. This one should be easy—a list of family members, friends, partners, treats and toys you enjoy, experiences you’ve had, and so on.
    A list of things you’re proud of. Were you chosen among many other candidates for a job? Did you get a degree? Can you do a headstand? Do you own a home?
