Its coming up on the 5 year anniversary of one of the worst natural disasters in the nation's history. Hurricane Katrina killed thousands of people and their beloved pets. Just the mere mention of the name "Katrina" needs no explaination. She has become a household name. In the weeks that followed, Villalobos was asked to take in some of her victims. Almost 50 Pit Bulls needed a place to go. But these were being called "the bottom of the barrel, the worse of the worst". They were a group of dogs that were left over after other animal rescue groups had picked through them all taking the cutest, the friendliest, the healthiest. The plea to take them was heartbreaking, so we agreed. We had less than 24 hours to prepare for them. It's been 5 years since that day and a couple were re-united with their New Orleans owners and sadly many died due to disease and injuries from the storm. Many have been adopted. But the fact remains some of the most infamous Pit Bulls in the world are still here waiting for another chance at a good life. And like so many of the people of New Orleans, they too have been forgotten about. Tonight we will take the time to remember them and make a difference in their lives. After the storm, there is hope.
