Ralph David Abernathy, III was born in the heat of the Civil Rights Movement, March 19, 1959. Rev. Ralph David Abernathy, III is the eldest son of the Civil Rights leaders, Rev. Dr., and Mrs. Ralph David Abernathy, Sr. 
Ralph David Abernathy, III was destined for public service from the time of his birth. 

Ralph David Abernathy, III was first elected to public office in 1988 to the House of Representatives at which time he was the youngest politician elected to the House at the age of 29, and in 1992, he forged ahead and was elected to the Georgia State Senate. After a 10 year long successful political career, Rev. Abernathy, III accepted his calling by God into the ministry. He was ordained in 2001 at the historic West Hunter Street Baptist Church where his legendary father, Dr. Ralph David Abernathy, Sr., pastored for thirty years. His journey is a remarkable story of personal courage, faith, triumphant and spiritual transformation. 

 

 
His motto in life was given to him by his famous father, If the elevator to success is broken, take the stairs.
