Hi! Thanks for reading my blog and leaving a comment - As for McNabb, I think his keister is cooked in Philly and will be released at the end of the season or possibly traded, but he is making 10 miliion plus next year so I don't know if a team will pay him that kinda money to perform the way he's been performing lately and no one wants their "leader" yawning on the sidelines. Yep, the cameras caught him during the Ravens game, yawning . . . As for Chicago, I think they finally feel like they have their guy in Kyle Orton who was playing well before he got injured. If they were smart they wouldn't go back to the constant QB shuffling of the past few seasons. I doubt he ends up there . . .

"Breaking News" from Sports Geeks/Redskins' Sean Taylor dies after being shot

RIP Sean Taylor, our prayers go out to the family of Sean Taylor

    Sports Geeks

MIAMI -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor died early Tuesday, a day after the Pro Bowl player was shot at home by what police say was an intruder. He was 24.

In a statement released by the Redskins Tuesday morning, owner Daniel Snyder said, "This is the worst imaginable tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sean's family."

    Sean Taylor, S
    Washington Redskins

    Height: 6-2
    Weight: 212
    Born: 4/1/83 Miami, FL
    College: Miami (Fla.)
    Exp.: 4th season
    High School: Gulliver Prep [Miami]

Family friend Richard Sharpstein said Taylor's father told him the news around 5:30 a.m.

"His father called and said he was with Christ and he cried and thanked me," said Sharpstein, Taylor's former lawyer. "It's a tremendously sad and unnecessary event. He was a wonderful, humble, talented young man, and had a huge life in front of him. Obviously God had other plans."

Taylor died at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he had been airlifted after the shooting early Monday, Sharpstein said.

Two carloads of mourners, including the athlete's father, arrived at the house Tuesday morning. They remained inside and did not speak to reporters. A single bouquet of flowers was left by a palm tree just outside a front gate. Beside the mailbox, an untouched newspaper lay with news of Taylor's shooting.

At Redskins Park in Ashburn, Va., fans began a makeshift memorial by laying flowers on a field near the front entrance. Several people paid silent respects at Taylor's parking space, a reward he received as the team's defensive player of the week in a game against Philadelphia in September.

Doctors had been encouraged late Monday when Taylor squeezed a nurse's hand, according to Vinny Cerrato, the Redskins' vice president of football operations. But Sharpstein said he was told Taylor never regained consciousness after being transported to the hospital and that he wasn't sure how he had squeezed the nurse's hand.

"Maybe he was trying to say goodbye or something," Sharpstein said.

Taylor, the fifth overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft following an All-American season at the University of Miami, was shot early Monday in the upper leg, damaging the key femoral artery and causing significant blood loss.

    Fan memorials

The Washington Redskins are coordinating memorials for Sean Taylor at both Redskins Park and FedExField.

The No. 21 will be painted in a grass parking area on the right side of the road in front of the guardhouse leading into Redskins Park. In addition, No. 21 will also be painted on the plaza in front of the Redskins Hall of Fame store on the south side of FedExField. Both memorials should be finalized by early afternoon today.

Fans will be allowed to access these areas as a memorial to Sean Taylor and leave any tributes or flowers as they may choose.

Information regarding any planned memorial services or donations will be communicated when available.

"According to a preliminary investigation, it appears that the victim was shot inside the home by an intruder," Miami-Dade County police said in a statement. "We do not have a subject description at this time."

But police were still investigating the attack, which came just eight days after an intruder was reported at Taylor's home. Officers were sent to the home about 1:45 a.m. Monday after Taylor's girlfriend called 911.

Sharpstein said Taylor's girlfriend told him the couple was awakened by loud noises, and Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps in the bedroom for protection. Someone then broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots, one missing and one hitting Taylor, Sharpstein said. Taylor's 1-year-old daughter, Jackie, was also in the house, but neither she nor Taylor's girlfriend were injured.

Police found signs of forced entry, but have not determined if they were caused Monday, or the previous burglary.

The shooting happened in the pale yellow house he bought two years ago. Eight days before the attack someone pried open a front window, rifled through drawers and left a kitchen knife on a bed at Taylor's home, according to police.

"They're really sifting through that incident and today's incident," Miami-Dade Detective Mario Rachid said, "to see if there's any correlation."

Taylor's death comes nearly a year after Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was killed in a drive-by shooting following an argument at a Denver nightclub on Jan. 1. University of Miami defensive lineman Bryan Pata was shot to death in November 2006 several miles from Taylor's home in an unsolved killing.

Born April 1, 1983, Taylor starred as a running back and defensive back at Gulliver Prep in Miami. His father, Pedro Taylor, is police chief of Florida City.

A private man with a small inner circle, Taylor rarely granted interviews. But, behind the scenes, Taylor was described as personable and smart -- an emerging locker room leader.

"From the first day I met him, from then to now, it's just like night and day," Redskins receiver James Thrash said Monday. "He's really got his head on his shoulders and has been doing really well as far as just being a man. It's been awesome to see that growth."

    Nick Wass / Associated Press
Sean Taylor made his pro football reputation as one of the game's hardest hitters.

After Taylor was drafted, problems soon began. Taylor fired his agent, then skipped part of the NFL's mandatory rookie symposium, drawing a $25,000 fine. Driving home late from a party during the season, he was pulled over and charged with drunken driving. The case was dismissed in court, but by then it had become a months-long distraction for the Redskins.

Taylor also was fined at least seven times for late hits, uniform violations and other infractions over his first three seasons, including a $17,000 penalty for spitting in the face of Tampa Bay running back Michael Pittman during a 2006 playoff game.

Meanwhile, Taylor endured a yearlong legal battle after he was accused in 2005 of brandishing a gun at a man during a fight over allegedly stolen all-terrain vehicles near Taylor's home. He eventually pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors and was sentenced to 18 months' probation.

Taylor said the end of the assault case was like "a gray cloud" being lifted. It was also around the time that his daughter was born, and teammates noticed a change.

On the field, Taylor's play was often erratic. Assistant coach Gregg Williams frequently called Taylor the best athlete he'd ever coached, but nearly every big play was mitigated by a blown assignment. Taylor led the NFL in missed tackles in 2006 yet made the Pro Bowl because of his reputation as one of the hardest hitters in the league.

This year, however, Taylor was allowed to play a true free safety position, using his speed and power to chase down passes and crush would-be receivers. His five interceptions tie for the league lead in the NFC, even though he missed the last two games because of a sprained knee.

"I just take this job very seriously," Taylor said in a rare group interview during training camp. "It's almost like, you play a kid's game for a king's ransom. And if you don't take it serious enough, eventually one day you're going to say, 'Oh, I could have done this, I could have done that.'

"So I just say, 'I'm healthy right now, I'm going into my fourth year, and why not do the best that I can?' And that's whatever it is, whether it's eating right or training myself right, whether it's studying harder, whatever I can do to better myself."

    "Breaking News" from Sports Geeks

    from foxsports.com
Another shooting victim in the NFL, when is this ever going to stop??

Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor has fallen into a coma following surgery for a life-threatening gunshot wound suffered early Monday morning at his South Miami home, FOXSports.com has learned.

Redskins officials are en route to South Florida to visit Taylor.

One source said there is a concern Taylor suffered brain damage from the loss of blood and may not survive.

"It doesn't look good," the source said. "But he's young, strong and extra healthy. That's what he's got going for him."

Taylor was shot on the inside of his leg during a home invasion involving "one or maybe more" individuals, another source said. The bullet pierced Taylor's femoral artery, causing him to get rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

The 24-year-old player was in the intensive care unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital after several hours of surgery, said family friend Richard Sharpstein, his former lawyer.

Doctors are worried the blood loss might affect blood flow to the brain, said Sharpstein, who was at the hospital with Taylor's family and friends.

The Redskins' Sean Taylor is in critical condition after his femoral artery was severed in a shooting early Monday morning. (Nick Wass / Associated Press)

Officers were sent to Taylor's home at about 1:45 a.m. after his girlfriend called 911 and said he was shot in his lower body, Lt. Nancy Perez said. Taylor had missed the last two games because of a knee injury and was at home recuperating. Taylor was airlifted to the hospital.

Investigators were still interviewing the girlfriend and other relatives who were in the home to try to determine what happened, Perez said. No arrests have been made.

"It could have been a possible burglary; it could have been a possible robbery," Perez said. "It has not been confirmed as yet."

Sharpstein said Taylor's girlfriend told him the couple was awakened by loud noises, and Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps in the bedroom for protection. Someone then broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots, one missing and one hitting Taylor, the lawyer said.

"It was clearly a burglary, an armed burglary," Sharpstein said, adding nothing appeared to have been stolen.

The shooting happened at a home Taylor bought two years ago in the Miami suburb of Palmetto Bay. The player is in his fourth season with the Redskins after playing at the University of Miami, where he was an All-American in 2003. Despite his injury, he is tied for the NFC lead with five interceptions.

In Ashburn, Va., Redskins owner Dan Snyder said he was headed to Miami on his private plane, joined by running back Clinton Portis, vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato and trainer Bubba Tyer.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to Sean and his family. ... We appreciate very, very much the outcry of support," Snyder said.

Redskins safety Pierson Prioleau fought to keep his composure.

"This is not just a member of the Washington Redskins," said Prioleau, one of a few players made available to reporters. "But we're talking about a dad, a brother, a friend of ours, and that's where we're at with this right now."

Coach Joe Gibbs was joined by the team chaplain at the Redskins' usual Monday meeting. A small group of players held a separate prayer gathering.

The Redskins (5-6) lost 19-13 at Tampa on Sunday. Taylor did not travel with the team to the game because of his injury. Taylor sprained a ligament in his right knee in the second half of the Nov. 11 loss to Philadelphia. He was expected to miss at least two games.

Known as one of the NFL's hardest hitters, Taylor played in his first Pro Bowl last season, where he drew attention by leveling the other team's punter in what is usually a well-mannered exhibition game. Even though he has missed two games, his five interceptions remained tied for most in the NFC.

Taylor has been in trouble numerous times since he was drafted as the No. 5 overall pick in 2004. He has been fined at least seven times during his professional career for late hits and other infractions, including a $17,000 penalty for spitting in the face of Tampa Bay running back Michael Pittman during a playoff game in January 2006. He also was fined $25,000 for skipping a mandatory rookie symposium shortly after he was drafted.

Redskins coaches and players have defended Taylor, saying he was smart and misunderstood. Taylor has been slow to let anyone in his inner circle. He has rarely spoken to reporters, saying he does not trust them. Teammates said he became more mature over the last year after he became a father for the first time.

In 2005, Taylor was accused of brandishing a gun at a man and repeatedly hitting him during a fight that broke out after Taylor and some friends went looking for the people who had allegedly stolen his all-terrain vehicles.

Taylor reached a deal with prosecutors last year after they agreed to drop felony charges against him. He pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors in the assault case and was sentenced to 18 months probation. The pleas prompted another fine from the NFL but kept his football career intact.

He also was ordered to talk about the importance of education at 10 Miami schools and had to contribute $1,000 for scholarships to each of those schools.

The man Taylor allegedly hit, Ryan Hill, sued, seeking at least $15,000 in damages. Hill sustained bruises to his body, incurred medical expenses and lost wages because of the fight, the lawsuit said.

    Joe Kennedy

    thecanadianpress

TAMPA, Fla. - Joe Kennedy, a journeyman left-hander who pitched for
three major league teams last season, died at his in-laws' home Friday.
    He was 28.

After going to bed early, Kennedy woke up at about
1:15 a.m. Friday and collapsed as he was leaving a bedroom at the home
of his wife's parents, Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie
Carter said. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue took Kennedy to Brandon
Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, she said.

    "This is tragic
and stunning news, it is difficult to express the emotions felt by the
Blue Jays players and our organization," Toronto GM J.P. Ricciardi said
in a statement. "My sincere sympathies go to his wife, their son and
    the entire family."

"We were terribly shocked," Blue Jays
president Paul Godfrey told The Associated Press. "From what we
understand he was in Brandon ... to be the best man at a wedding today."

Godfrey didn't have particulars on the cause of death.

"Obviously, when a 28-year-old man dies, ball player or not, it's a terrible, terrible thing," he said.

    Kennedy
spent seven years in the majors, playing last season with Oakland,
Arizona and Toronto. He also spent time with Tampa Bay and Colorado and
    had a 43-61 career record with a 4.79 ERA in 222 appearances.

    "He
was such a focused kid from the time we took him in the draft," said
Florida Marlins vice-president Dan Jennings, who was the scouting
director for Tampa Bay when the Rays selected Kennedy in the 1998
draft. "He was on a mission to become a major league pitcher."

Kennedy made his major league debut in June 2001 and made his last appearance in relief on Sept. 29 in a 5-3 win over Tampa Bay.

    "You
think all athletes and all young people are invincible," Jennings said.
"Then when you see something like this, it's very tragic."

Craig Weissmann, the Tampa Bay scout who signed Kennedy, described him as a fierce, determined competitor.

    "He
really dedicated himself and was really on a mission to become a major
league pitcher," Weissmann said. "You wish as a scout and a major
league organization, you wish every kid could develop that fast."

Godfrey said Toronto was interested in bringing Kennedy back.

"We had every intention to speak to him," he said. "We had him on our list to talk to."

Kennedy's agent, Damon Lapa, did not return phone calls and an e-mail from the AP.

    "He
was a valued teammate and friend to everyone with the A's
organization," Oakland assistant general manager David Forst said in a
statement. "On behalf of the entire A's organization, we extend our
condolences to Joe's wife, Jami and his entire family."

    Kennedy
started the 2007 season with Oakland as a starter but was moved to the
bullpen after going 3-9 with a 4.37 ERA. He appeared in 27 games,
including 16 starts, before being placed on waivers.

    Claimed by
Arizona in August, he was released that month after just three
appearances. The Blue Jays signed him Aug. 29, and Kennedy got his
first win as a Blue Jay on Sept. 21, in New York against the Yankees.

    Kennedy
and his family still lived in the Denver area and had just bought a new
house, Rockies first baseman Todd Helton, one of Kennedy's closest
    friends, told the Denver Post.

"It's a sad day and a sad situation," Helton said. "He's leaving a wife and a little boy behind."

That family meant everything to Kennedy, Weissmann said.

    "He
was a great father. He loved that boy and his wife both more than
anything in the world. That son of his was the apple of his eye,"
Weissmann said. "He just was really looking forward to everything that
a father shares with a son."

Williams participates in first full practice

    foxsports.com
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) - Ricky Williams participated in his first full day of practice Wednesday, his status for Monday's game still unclear.

Dolphins coach Cam Cameron isn't saying whether the running back will play at Pittsburgh.

Williams took part in agility exercises before he gathered with the team to stretch at the Dolphins' training facility. Cameron and a large group of reporters looked on as Williams and his teammates went through drills.

"He definitely had a spring in his step today," rookie quarterback John Beck said. "I don't think I was the only one that noticed that. We're happy to have Ricky on our football team. This is my first time being with him on the team, but I've heard from players on this team, he's a very hard worker and he's going to give us his all."

When asked whether Williams would get playing time Monday, Cameron stuck by his wait-and-see approach.

"It's going to be day-to-day," Cameron said. "And I think that's what's best for our team. I think that's what is best for him."

Williams participated in weightlifting and meetings with teammates Monday, just days after the winless Dolphins welcomed him back from a 1 1/2-year suspension.

"It's kind of like minicamp. You bring guys in, they look great," defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday said. "I didn't get a chance to really watch him, but from what I hear - the buzz - he's the same guy. He works hard. You know you're going to get that from Ricky. There's never been a question about his work ethic. On the field, the guy works hard. His problems have been off the field."

Williams has tested positive for marijuana at least four times since Miami acquired him in 2002. He rushed for 3,225 yards in the 2002-03 seasons after being traded to the Dolphins. Williams retired in 2004, but returned to the Dolphins in 2005, when he ran for 743 yards alternating with Ronnie Brown.

Williams said his conditioning level and ability to absorb Miami's playbook would likely determine how quickly he'll play.

"We're just taking it one day at a time," Williams said. It was a phrase he repeated on multiple occasions.

He said he felt comfortable on the field, describing his return as "pretty natural."

"I haven't played football in a year, and then to get on the field and feel it all come back so quickly was a little surprising," Williams said.

A cadre of reporters with television cameras, microphones and recorders crowded around Williams' locker Wednesday; many ignored Beck, who was talking with reporters at the same time.

"We kind of forget that he's here," defensive end Jason Taylor told reporters. "He's one of the guys, you just forget. Obviously, we all know he's here now, because half you people weren't here this whole year. So we see all the cameras and all the attention, so we know something's going on."

A torn knee ligament cut short Brown's promising season, but Jesse Chatman has picked up the slack, averaging 91.6 yards rushing per game. Chatman (ankle) was limited for Wednesday's practice and Cameron said Williams and other backs shared repetitions.

"It's nice to get in there and feel like you're a part of the team," Williams said. "If Jesse would have been out there, I would have been limited. It would have been a little more difficult to get into it."

    Henry drops appeal, starts suspension

Tennessee running back Chris Henry dropped his appeal Wednesday and started serving his four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. His agent, Josh Luchs, confirmed that Henry dropped his appeal, which was scheduled to be heard Monday. The move would allow the rookie to return for the Titans' final two regular season games. Henry was not at practice Wednesday and cannot practice with the team during the four weeks.

League investigating reports of Packers bounty offers

Hot from the NFL news...Hey nibbers..what do you think about that! Scandals everywhere and I thought the Packers were innocent of all things!

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- NFL officials are investigating whether Green Bay Packers players offered payments to teammates for achieving specific defensive goals.

League rules prohibit teams and players "from offering or accepting bonuses to a player for his or his team's performance against a particular team, a particular opposing player or players, or a particular group of an opposing team."

League spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed the investigation Monday.

ESPN reported that Packers defensive backs offered to pay the team's defensive linemen $500 each if they were able to hold Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson under 100 yards rushing two weeks ago, and another $500 for holding Carolina to under 60 yards rushing as a team on Sunday.

Peterson was held to 45 yards rushing before he left the Vikings' Nov. 11 loss to the Packers with an injury. But the Panthers rushed for 131 yards in Sunday's loss to Green Bay.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday morning he was not aware of the situation, but had not yet spoken to general manager Ted Thompson.

"I have no knowledge of that," McCarthy said. "I have not been made aware of that. I haven't talked to Ted today, so if it's something that happened this morning, we have not spoken." Packers players were not available to the media on Monday after their 31-17 victory over Carolina.
