Why Imus is not to blame for his comments.

Recently shock jock Don Imus made once again another racially incentive remark on his radio program in reference to the behavior of a sports athlete who happens to be African American. While discussing the arrest of football player "Pac Man Jones", Imus asked sports annoucer Warner Wolf what the color of the athlete was. Wolf  responded "African-American," Imus responded: "There you go. Now we know." The comments by Imus have opened up a wound still felt by many who remember Imus' racially incentive remarks about the Rutgers womens basketball team referring to them as "nappy headed hoes." As a result of that comment, Imus radio show was cancelled and he reappeared months later with a new radio program.
Many people have expressed outrage at Imus' recent comments, but I ask why are these people mad at Imus and not at the people who support his career by listening to his show?
For years Don Imus has built his career on his bigoted remarks to gain rating and commercial success. It is not surprising that after the Rutgers incident, that Imus would repeat his behavior of expressing racially insensitive remarks on the air. Imus is doing but playing the rating game, which is saying or doing ANYTHING to gain more rating for there show. I don't blame Don Imus for his foolish remarks this time or last time in regards to the Rutgers womens basketball team. I blmae the people that listen to his program and have continued to listen to his show for years while making numerous amounts of other sexually and racially insensitive remarks. In the business of radio or television, as long as people watch or listen to programs that promote bigotry and ignorance, these programs will continue to stay on the air.
My concern lies with the many people that think there is nothing wrong with what this man says and continue to listen to these views. If there was one foolish man making these remarks it would be easier to ignore, but there are many that appear to see notjing is wrong or think its entertaining, thats a cause for alarm.
Plain and simple, programs that pour out ignorance and bigotry can be ignored, but there existence only is made by the ignorance and bigotry that exists in our society. When we are ready to blame Don Imus and others for their remarks, stop and remember that these people are products of the society that made them, the real outrage should be directed to the people that support these shows on a daily basis.
I would love to hear your response, whether you agree or disagree, write back to me and be sure to listen to my online radio blog coming soon. Peace.
