Brown Girl Collective celebrates BOLD, Brilliant and Beautiful women and girls of African descent by paying homage to our past and sharing our present, while preparing for our future.

Hosted by BGC founder Marcie L. Thomas, this show will address many of the relationship between mothers and sons and how women can successfully rear the next generation of male citizens to become men of purpose and vision.

Guests include:

  • David Miller, Founder of Dare to Be King Project, LLC - http://daretobeking.net/ - a comprehensive curriculum designed to teach life and survival skills to adolescent African American males. He is also the author of several books which include, Khalil’s Way, the first in a series of children’s books for boys of color. His other books include: Raising Him Alone: Things Black Women Can Do To Raise Boys, among others. Additionally, David serves as social media strategist for the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse (President Obama’s Fatherhood & Mentoring Initiative).
  • Yvonne Hunnicutt, Executive Director of the Human Service Chamber of Franklin County (Columbus, OH) and Founder of the Mothers of Sons Support Group, which meets monthly to provide a safe, nurturing and learning environment for women raising sons to share thoughts and ideas in child-rearing. She is also well-versed in youth development matters ranging from child welfare to children aging out of the foster care system to eliminating the overrepresentation of youth of color in the juvenile justice system.
