His desire to those who were forced onto IU to lose their quality of life because they are "too old to work"  is the most distressing news item on the to do list. These veterans collecting IU took that in lue of continuing in the battle for their rightful and EARNED benefit amounts and now just as they hit the line in old age will have their incomes reduced by 50% or more. These IU tracks forbid these veterans to work and resulted in many not even being eligible for but the smallest modicum of Social Security payments. In addition, these IU benefits are not rolled over to their families and spouses upon their departure. In short, it was the perfect setup to insure that our government could once again refuse to those most in need for their life shattering injuries in service to this fine nation, ANY real restbit in their golden years. The IU was primarily designed to limit the appeals backlogs, and no doubt the VA had every intention of taking it away when their greed decided it was time to take more away from our veterans. LESS for Vets, MORE for the VA. Medical incident report records were routinely wiped out in these past cases and standard operating procedures at the VA today for those past cases it is believed still include procedures which in all too many cases have resulted in fraudulent diagnosis and catastrophic consequences for many  patients. Also it should be noted that 7 out 10 veteran suicides are of those over the age of 50. Dr. Sue and Lisa Marie Magin will be joining us tonight for our weekly fireside chat.   Dr. Sue worked at the VA in one of their rehabilitation clinics where patients were transferred to from the other clinics, ICU etc. for further recuperation and recovery. She holds her MD/Phd in Medicine with two primaries (Internal Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine). She has been a guest on other shows, most notably the Buchanan Report. A very outspoken defender of quality care, she will be speaking of the problems that arose which caused her to move on and away from the VA after her 16 years of fine service to this nation’s veterans. In addition, we will be getting her insightful opinions on a plethora of the never ending and on-going issues at the VA. BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) Lisa Marie Magin, a former VA Medical Supply Technician tried to do the right thing for the veterans at the Buffalo VA Medical Center, but it cost her a good government job, her medical benefits, and her 4-year ordeal with the VA. Lisa worked in the VA’s Sterile Processing Service, which is responsible for cleaning and sterilizing medical, surgical, and dental tools. Lisa reported co-workers taking shortcuts, or skipping basic rules, but for trying to do the right thing, Lisa was fired. Last week, an administrative judge for the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board ruled Lisa had engaged in protected whistleblower activity, and was fired because of it. One VA Center about the same as another. Have just recently learned from employees at the Columbia VA they get bonuses every year for keeping the costs down. One doctor admitted most of the bonuses go to people in admin positions. Janitors are complaining this past year their bonuses were cut from $1500 to $1000. I have done charity work and fund raisers for veterans for approximately 20 years. During his tour on the USS Frank Cable (AS-40), a superior non-commissioned officer sexually assaulted him in August 2000. He was ordered by his command not to pursue a report of this crime with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. After this crime, Brian was misdiagnosed with a Personality Disorder by a Naval psychiatrist and discharged by his command in August 2001. He received a disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs in June 2002 for his post-traumatic stress disorder resulting from the military sexual trauma. Brian’s petition to change his discharge from a general discharge for a personality disorder to a medical retirement for post-traumatic stress disorder was denied by the Board for Correction of Naval Records in August 2004. Brian holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Paralegal Studies from Anne Arundel Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Paralegal Studies from Stevenson University, and a Master of Science in Forensic Studies from Stevenson University in December 2013. His master’s thesis was written on military sexual trauma and nominated for publication in the Stevenson Forensics Journal. Brian is currently a second year student at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota where he is pursuing a joint JD/MPA program and serves as Treasurer of the Mitchell Hamline Veterans Association. During operations, Jason was involved in nearly 200 engagements w/ hostile forces, including suicide bombings, IED attacks, firefights, enemy artillery, rocket and motor attacks. He also spent 8 months in the Korengal Valley, the so-called ‘Valley of Death’, in Kunar Provence, Afghanistan.    Jason holds a Master’s of Science in psychology, and is currently enrolled in a Master’s of Social Work degree program. He works as a psychotherapist in a state psychiatric hospital in Georgia, where he facilitates group and individual meditation and mindfulness interventions. Jason advocates for vet-to-vet mentoring programs, urban farming, and sustainable, eco-friendly housing for veterans. His research interests include: mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for serious and persistent mental illness, the etiology of PTSD and telemental health. Dr. Platoni served as commander of the 1972nd Medical Detachment (Combat Stress Control) at Guantanamo Bay Cuba from 2003-2004, where combat stress control became a critical element of the Joint Task Force mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in the Global War on Terrorism. Dr. Platoni deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, holding the position of Deputy Commander of Clinical Services for the 55th Medical Company (CSC) in Baghdad and seven subsequent locations, finally as Officer in Charge of Team Ar Ramadi, situated the seat of the insurgency and during times of intensive combat.  At the invitation of the 3rd Brigade Commander, 3rd Infantry Division upon the conclusion of her tour of duty in the wartime theater, Dr. Platoni reported to the Home of the Infantry, Fort Benning, Georgia for an additional six month mission in order to provide for the reintegration services of the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armored Regiment due to elevated numbers of psychological casualties among combat arms soldiers. Franzen Brigadier General George A. Franzen was the commander of the 140th Tactical Fighter Wing, Colorado Air National Guard, Buckley Air National Guard Base, Colorado. He is responsible for the administration and supervision of the wing and the 1,600 members in its subordinate units, ensuring combat readiness in the mobilization missions, and as Air Commander is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Buckley Air National Guard Base. The general was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant through the Ohio State University Air Force Reserve Officer Training program in June of 1961 and entered undergraduate pilot training at Vance Air Force Base, Okla. He began his flying career flying the F-100 at Cannon Air Force Base. New Mexico. He next reported to RAF Woodbridge, UK where he became an instructor pilot and flight examiner. From there he went to Vietnam as an F-100 pilot, instructor and flight commander, completing 237 combat missions. After a 16 month break in service he joined the Iowa Air National Guard as an F-100 pilot in 1970. He was hired as a full time technician by the Michigan Air National Guard, 127th Tactical Fighter Group in 1972 as the Chief of Standardization and Evaluation Officer during their conversion to the F-100. He joined the Colorado Air National Guard in 1974 as the full time technician Chief of Standardization and Evaluation Officer. He also served as the 120 Tactical Fighter Squadron Operations Officer and the 140th Tactical Fighter Wing Deputy Commander for Operations. He was assigned at the 140th Tactical Wing Commander in 1981 and promoted to Brigadier General in 1983. He served as a member of the Tactical Air Reserve Policy and Advisory Council 1984 - 1990 and as a member of the Air Directorate Field Advisory Council 1986 - 1988 and Chairman 1988 - 1990. In 1990 he was appointed to the Air Reserve Forces Policy Committee. Although she has received other awards, this is her most revered.   CSM Russell has been instrumental in helping Sgt. Brandi during his national speaking campaign, and has purchased over 900 books to give to troops. This continues to this day...Six years later!!   She supports our Animal Sanctuary and Sgt. Bridging The Gap Of Georgia assists individuals, in finding employment while working with them to help bridge the barriers of society that have prevented them from succeeding. At BTGG we accomplish this through a mentorship program. It is a people helping people mentoring program for veterans and others that need a fresh start to their lives.  Bridging the Gap of Georgia is proving that with mentorship   these individuals can return to being productive members of society.
