Dream Catchers - Peer Support for uncertain times - LesPaul Morgan

If life isn’t hard enough already for people without disabilities well just throw a Brain Injury or another disability into the mix and imagine just how hard life can be. It can be very hard especially if society either doesn’t seem to care, the Doctors and medical professionals and or Friends and Family have written you off or really could care less if you succeed or fall through the cracks or cease to exist at all!

Well as a long time Peer Support Specialist and disability advocate I am trained to provide knowledge, experience, and emotional, social or practical help to each other. It commonly refers to an initiative consisting of trained supporters (although it can be provided by peers without training), and can take a number of forms such as peer mentoring, listening, or counseling.

So when a survivors comes to meet with me in my office or calls me on the phone saying I have tried everything and no one cares, or wants to help me, or no one will listen to me, or I just turn around and say well I bet you haven’t been involved in peer support group have you? And next you will see there is a lot out there that we can do to change the World around us and we the survivors can truly change our mindset and take control of our lives one person one life at a time…
