    Concentration & Focus For Setting And Achieving Goals

    APPLYING CONCENTRATION AND FOCUS TO GOAL-SETTING

         Mental Focus is what you use to keep a singularly fixed mindset clearly locked onto the vision, objective, or goal you have set for yourself, whether that goal be mental, physical, social, spiritual, etc.  As a cognitive function it TIES TOGETHER AND UNIFIES EVERYTHING IN YOUR PERCEPTION, IMAGINATION, HABITUAL THOUGHTS, EMOTIONS, AND ACTIONS so that what you think, feel, and do takes you in an self-straightening line toward the finish.

         This unwavering, UNIFIED MINDSET (with all the aspects of your 'inner world' marching to the same tune) moves you forward with increasing momentum along the chain of steps necessary to complete that which you have determined for yourself; individual steps the number and nature of which become ever more clear in your Mind, and ever more naturally and easily achieved so that objectives appear to move TOWARDS YOU, magnetically.

         Mental Concentration is what you do in relation to the smallest individual action steps within a goal, no matter how extensive the goal.  With it, you select the next, highest value or priority step (a task, an assignment, and appointment, etc.) along the chain of steps leading to the objective.  You then bring together the full might of your Attention and CONCENTRATE that Attention onto the task at hand, rejecting and dismissing any distractions that would interfere with getting it done, remaining with the duty until it is properly completed.

         If you were a sculptor, Focus would constitute the vivid creation of a work in your Mind's eye, made solid and held firm through unshakable resolve throughout the entire time frame of the project.  Concentration would comprise the individual actions involved in creating the masterpiece, such as gathering tools, working diligently hour by hour, chipping away at the stone in obedience to your vision, rejecting all temptation for distraction until the masterpiece stands actualized for all to see.

         Interestingly enough, without first improving your Mental Concentration, you will have difficulty in improving Mental Focus.  The reason for this has to do with the specific PURPOSE of Mental Concentration as it allows you to efficiently, effectively achieve each individual step within any significant objective over a longer period of time.  Without a reliable, strong ability to gather your Attention whenever needed, direct it to a single task, and ruthlessly resist all forms of unproductive distraction, you won't be able to make useful progress in any vision, objective, or goal you set for yourself.  When you are not able to move consistently forward in the direction of your dreams, you cannot truthfully claim that you have strong Mental Focus. 

         For the benefit of your ability to achieve the things you truly want in life in the shortest amount of time necessary, you should make improving Mental Concentration your day's top priority so that you can have the mental self-discipline - the skill to direct the incredible powers of your Mind - in order to make your dreams a reality.

    Mental Concentration In Law Of Attraction - How Will I know I'm Making Progress?



    Mike (from Idaho) began Mental Concentration Training so that he could better implement Law of Attraction principles (visualization, focus, concentration, etc.) under two systems entitled 'The Science Of Getting Rich" by Wallace Wattles and "The Master Key System," written by Charles F. Haanel.  He enrolled in the Neuro-Sculpting!© program, established his mental performance baselines, conducted his Self-Assessments, spent a month putting his brain into healthier physical condition, and spent a couple sessions on the phone with your Host to make adjustments to training as needed.

    Mike now asks:

    "I subscribed to the Neuro-Sculpting!© Training Studio and I've been practicing three brain training techniques like crazy and have broken through the 7-minute barrier so that now I can do the intellectual exercise, the intuitive exercise, and the sensory exercise all at the Moderate control level.  What do I do now to help me in my mastery of Law Of Attraction principles, other than continue to train?"


    'KNOWING' IS NOT ENOUGH

              What good to possess gold if you fail to put it to use?  Don't let it gather dust inside you.  There's only one way to amplify, to magnify, to MULTIPLY the wealth:

              The time has arrived for you to EXPRESS your knowledge in the world outside the room where you practice.

              The understanding you have acquired (that you can willfully Concentrate your Mind and DIRECT it to productive purposes) MUST be followed by PRACTICAL APPLICATION though dedicated practice in the real world, ALL DAY LONG, in as many activities as you can remember (and you shall - with rehearsal - remember to do so more and more).

              Here are three AMAZING KEYS TO PERSONAL POWER that you've already learned in your practice and transition from a Weak Cognitive Control Skill Level to a Moderate one:

        1)  Your Mind is NATURALLY disobedient and wants to wander all over, getting itself into mischief and drama.
        2)  When your Mind, like a team of wild horses, is given freedom to do as it habitually wishes, that is when you get into trouble and fail to execute, fail to manage your thoughts & emotions, fail to master what you say, to whom, and when; fail to do the highest priority tasks in the most efficient way so that each day you gain faster and faster momentum toward your goals; and fail to see people as they REALLY are rather than as the deceptive pictures your Mind paints.
        3)  When, in your solitary practice sessions, you grasp the reigns of your Attention and bring that wild team of thoroughbreds repeatedly under your control, you KNOW that the source of nearly all your problems HAS ALWAYS BEEN the untrained Mind and 'unguided' Attention - you know in those moments of clarity, INTUITIVELY, that the tendency for such mistakes and missteps DO NOT EXIST YOU WHEN YOUR MIND IS CLEAR AND YOUR DEEP INTELLECT IS IN CONTROL!

              I want you to consider carefully what I have written.  

              The FACTS are that when you go about your day in the usual frame of uncontrolled Attention and failure to willfully, actively Concentrate, you are forced by mental habit to endure that which up until now has frustrated and sabotaged your potential.  When, in rehearsal, you exert control over your Attention and stand firm until you have reached a point of Mental Concentration, you are IMMUNE to the tendencies (and thereby, exempt from the PENALTIES) of an undisciplined intellect.

              You have this basic knowledge.  Now, pick an activity, and apply what you know.  Contemplate how you might do that.

              The essential prerequisite is this:  ENTER INTO NO ACTIVITY UNLESS YOU HAVE CENTERED YOUR ATTENTION.

              Start with the simple activities you do upon rising each morning (brushing your teeth, combing your hair, getting dressed).  Do so in total Concentration.  Do not allow your thoughts to go to and fro.  RESOLVE TO CONCENTRATE!  Take the same approach with as many activities as you can.

              Doing paperwork in the office?  REMEMBER YOUR TRAINING!!!!  You should even TIME yourself just as you do in your training sessions, and set goals to improve upon your performance.

              NEVER speak to another human being mindlessly!  They deserve better than that from you, and you deserve the PERSONAL POWER that comes from Socializing in Concentration!

              Only by keeping your Mind CENTERED - your action PURPOSEFUL - your words MEANINGFUL can you maintain a mindset wherein the vision you hold for your life can be actualized CONSCIOUSLY.  Apply yourself with this level of intent, and you will begin to KNOW precisely how you are progressing.

    How will Mental Concentration affect my PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES?

    How will Mental Concentration affect my PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, such as helping with mental toughness in weightlifting - the mental anxieties and such - how will it help me overcome some of those issues? I do power lifting and there are times when I don't want to go because of some of the physical pain, anxiety, and procrastination that come with it. --Damon in California


              One of the things that ties PHYSICAL and MENTAL training together is that the effort needed to develop your Mental Concentration past the average levels of the general population requires the same level (or MORE) of Mental Resolve necessary for passionate weight training.  When a person sits down in a quiet room and "takes on" their own Mind (thereby, their own BRAIN) in order to move it from a lower level to a higher level and then to an even higher level in strength, endurance, and flexibility, they are PUSHING the same sorts of Psychological boundaries that a person has to move through in order to acquire expert proficiency in more strenuous forms of athletics.

              One of the lessons taught in The Neuro-Sculpting!©  Training Studio is 'OVERCOMING MENTAL RESISTANCE'.  The lessons contained therein pertain to what we call 'The Four Horsemen Of Mental Resistance, which are:

        1)  Wandering Thoughts
        2)  Impulsivity
        3)  Outside interruptions
        4)  Mental Fatigue

              Through Mental Concentration training, one learns the nature of a cognitive performance limit - how far a person can push himself mentally in any given type of mental exertion - and how to break through such limits in practice.

              The first thing a person runs into when they begin to train is a DISOBEDIENT MIND!  People are stunned to discover that when they sit down for their first session and task their brain to accomplish a specific task for a given duration, THEIR MIND HAS NO INTEREST WHATSOEVER IN OBEYING THEIR COMMAND!  The Mind tends to be a busy, noisy, chaotic, thought-spitting machine filled with ideas and emotions and daydreams and desires.  So, when we try to control that and get the Mind to hold steady in order to complete a simple mental task, we are literally fighting against Psychological forms of WEIGHT, and in order to succeed we require special types of mental EXERTION.

              Now, in lifting weights, you have PHYSICAL exertion and there may be pain and discomfort.  When I started hitting the gym pretty hard last year, the first obstacle I encountered was physical discomfort, but that was not the worst pain I had to endure.  The worst pain I had to endure WAS MY OWN MIND crying for me to QUIT, for me to GIVE UP, for me to FIND SOMETHING ELSE more entertaining for it to do.  My own Mind would present to me (in the form of distracting thoughts and associated desire) unproductive alternatives to what was essentially my True Will, my True Purpose, that is, to get into fantastic physical shape.  Thus, my Mind was working AGAINST me.

              In any physical activity that a person wants to become quite good at, the biggest obstacle is not going to be physical - it's going to be MENTAL!  If you make a priority to develop your Mental Concentration and your Mental Focus, then you will thereby learn to control the problem of Mental Resistance.  Master high levels of control over Mental Resistance, and you'll have much less of an issue dealing with Physical Resistance.  Using brain training exercise methods as featured in the Neuro-Sculpting!© Training Studio results in profound PHYSICAL changes (strengthening, growth) among brain cells.  Thus, the Mental Training ACTS as Physical Training.

              You will have no greater enemy on the face of the earth - when it comes to your life goals - than your own Mind when it is not aligned with your Will, with your TRUE, BEST desire for yourself.

              If you can turn your Attention away from being distracted by meaningless things out in the world, and turn that Attention to the task of MASTERING YOUR OWN THOUGHTS, there is nothing that will be beyond you.  Anyone who rules their own thoughts rules their own life.  You can then set your own course and be totally confident that you will get there.

    OLDER COLLEGE STUDENT WANTS BETTER MENTAL FOCUS

          Lena has returned to college after being out of school for some years.  She proceeds with a great mental attitude but finds that she gets lower test scores than she would like, finding college course and textbooks a challenge to absorb.  She'd like to get over the intimidating feeling during exam time so that she can think clearly, be confident of the answers she gives, and have an easier time concentrating on her studies so the information is more readily comprehended.

         Four things are working in your favor, Lena.

              1.  You have a positive attitude and are excited about returning to school.
              2.  You study in a good environment.
              3.  You are EAGER for improvement.
              4.  You are willing to shut out negative people to stay the course - your WILL is already strong!

        You should take a two-pronged approach:

        A)  Train yourself in basic Mental Concentration.  I suggest starting out with a couple simple training exercises that you practice on twice a day for a minimum of 20 minutes each session.  The more skilled you become at consciously, intentionally directing your Attention and placing yourself in a mindset of single-minded Concentration, the more confident you will be, the more productive, the easier concepts will reveal themselves to you, the better your memory will operate, and the more relaxed you shall become.

        B)  Boost your WORKING MEMORY (formerly known as 'Short Term Memory') through the practice of holding thought-objects in your Mind (in your Working Memory).  One fun way to do this is to take up Chess.  Or, you can practice playing the game 'CONCENTRATION' (there are free electronic versions online - or you can purchase something).  Also, there are countless free 'SUDOKU' puzzles online which you can play.  Get very good at any of these by enjoying them about a half hour daily.

              Now, HERE'S A SPECIAL SUGGESTION for approaching the 'Brain Training Games':

              Unlike the advice to master the power of Mental Concentration, playing these games won't add much to your stature as a human being.  They won't make you a hit at parties nor will they put you in command in a business meeting, but they CAN strengthen certain specific cognitive skills in addition to Working Memory.  If you want to get MORE VALUE from the games, print out the following statement (or something similar) and say it aloud to yourself with full Attention each time your proceed to play:

    "The most important thing in my life at this moment is to
    learn how to take control of my untrained and disobedient
    Mind—to put it under my skillful command so that I may
    enjoy greater success in all areas of my life. Therefore, I
    reserve the next [your choice] minutes and set them apart for the
    exclusive task of concentrating my attention only where my
    training directs. I know that each time I defy the
    distracting forces that seek to attract my notice, I acquire
    more power for later use. Nothing else matters in comparison
    to this task and I hereby reject all interference that would
    throw me off course. I now work to control my thoughts and
    thereby remove the presence and effects of conflicting
    influences; this so that all my mental power can be directed to
    a singular purpose for the benefit of my success.”

              I don't have time here to explain the value that comes from doing this step.  When you become a member of the Training Studio, that will be made clear.  Until such time, I ask that you simply trust me on it.

        NOTE:  By 'BOOSTING WORKING MEMORY' I do not mean that your Working Memory will become larger.  I mean that you will become SKILLED AT MAXIMIZING THE MENTAL WORKSPACE YOU ALREADY POSSESS.  Everyone has a natural limit to the number of items they can deal with simultaneously on the mental stage.  The problem occurs when people live mental lifestyles wherein they never actually access or become proficient at using their full cognitive potential.
