Aquarius Song of the Day from Brad Kronen's "Welcome to the Zodiac" Series

    Aquarius Song of the Day
    from Brad Kronen's
    "Welcome to the Zodiac" Series

Tonight's show is dedicated to the third and final Air sign - Aquarius.  Duality is a common theme amongst the air signs but for Aquarius it's much more blatant and effusive at the same time.  Aquarius rules the 11th house, which among other things is the house of groups and friends.  The Aquarian has an almost FIERCE need to belong to a core group and for most of them in this day and age that would mean one's friends.  But being friends with an Aquarian is quite a challenge in many ways.  First off with their fixed energy you can't be spontaneous with an Aquarian assuming that a friendship will simply grow from you starting a conversation with them.  One has to EARN an Aquarian's friendship because they take friendship so seriously, and they won't be your friend or even a good acquaintance overnight.  It is a slow methodical process of them establishing trust, checking to see if your mental capacities are in the same galaxy, and also if you can approve or handle their quirky/zany/weird side once they show it to you.  And quite frankly, with their emotional detachment and aloofness from strangers, Aquarians are not the most friendly people in the world. On top of all this, Aqurians are ruled by the planet Uranus, the planet of rebellion and of individuality which means that Aquarians are out there without even trying to be, so that when they do feel like showing their indivualistic side it's either way too ahead of its time or a level of oddness that most people can't take.  So for the most part Aquarians are loners.  But this I will say in defence of my fellow air people, if you withhold judgement and allow that nervous energy to tone down and warm up, you will have a true friend for life.
I've chosen 2 pieces for our oddball airheads, the first is "Left of Center" by Suzanne Vega. It captures the distance Aquarians feel knowing allready that they're different but still keenly observing the groups around them.  The second work has no music but to this day astounds me for it's being light years ahead of time - Brian Eno's "Music for Airports".  The entire album is this flow of very detached mental sound and beauty.  I wish I could give this album out and have people listen to it first and then ask them what year they would think it came out.  Many would say recently, some would say in the 90's, very few would say the 80's.  It came out in 197freaking8!!!!  It truly is a work of brilliance and musical genius - both traits of the Uranian personality.  Aquarians PLEASE buy this CD by Brian Eno, even though it was written a while back, the futurist in you will be quite satisfied for its innovation!

    "Left of Center"

    If you want me
    You can find me
    Left of center
    Off of the strip

    In the outskirts
    In the fringes
    In the corner
    Out of the grip

    When they ask me
    "What are you looking at?"
    I always answer
    "Nothing much" (not much)
    I think they know that
    I'm looking at them
    I think they think
I must be out of touch

    But I'm only
    In the outskirts
    And in the fringes
    On the edge
    And off the avenue
    And if you want me
    You can find me
    Left of center
    Wondering about you

    I think that somehow
    Somewhere inside of us
    We must be similar
    If not the same
    So I continue
    To be wanting you
    Left of center
    Against the grain

    If you want me
    You can find me
    Left of center
    Off of the strip
    In the outskirts
    In the fringes
    In the corner
    Out of the grip

    When they ask me
    "What are you looking at?"
    I always answer
    "Nothing much" (not much)
    I think they know that
    I'm looking at them
    I think they think
I must be out of touch

    But I'm only
    In the outskirts
    And in the fringes
    On the edge
    And off the avenue
    And if you want me
    You can find me
    Left of center

    Wondering about you
