Aquarius Icon from Brad Kronen’s “Welcome to the Zodiac” Series In honor of the 40th Anniversary of the July 20th, 1969 Moon Landing and the date that marks the dawning of the Age of Aquarius… "When the Moon is in the 7th House And Jupiter aligns with Mars Then peace will guide the planets And Love will steer the stars." These are the opening lines to the song "The Age of Aquarius", from the Hippie scream fest of the 1960's, Hair. Yours truly always found the lyrics cute but haphazard, almost as if it was a psychedelic version of a Voodoo love potion for humanity, and it wasn't until I chose my icon for the sign of Aquarius that I realized just how literal the opening of the song was and that its obviousness was sitting there the entire time, just like those "missing" glasses that have been sitting on those big craniums of every absent minded Aquarian desperately asking everyone and anyone "HAVE YOU SEEN MY GLASSES?" The "Ages" of Man are periods of time that mark the evolution of Mankind from every stage of its development while on planet Earth by rotating in counterclockwise motion through each sign of the Zodiac. Starting with its earliest and most primitive beginnings as nomadic hunters where Man had to assert its authority over every other living creature (The Age of Leo) to further stating it's superiority from the animal kingdom by incorporating the written word (The Age of Gemini) to expanding its awareness of the intangible by constructing ancient wonders of tangibly concrete commemoration in honor of the Gods and to glorify the Dead (The Age of Taurus) to our most recent Age where Western Civilization was either born of or destroyed in the name of God and Christendom, (The Age of Pisces). "This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius" is a debate that rages to this very day. Many feel the Age of Aquarius has yet to begin, there are others, myself included, who strongly believe that the world we now live in is very much a living embodiment that the Age of Aquarius is in full force! My hypothesis is even more controversial since I personally assert that the actual indicator the we had indeed entered the Age of Aquarius can be reduced to an actual date in recent history - July 20, 1969, when Neil Armstrong took his first steps on Earth's satellite, The Moon. Now when put in consideration that I have FIVE planets in the house of Aquarius, the 11th, I am no stranger to controversial thought, therefore I am well aware of the conspiracy theory that what was perceived to be the United States' dominance over the modern world by becoming the first country to travel outside of the Earth's atmosphere and beyond was really an illusion of smoke and mirrors just to deceive the Soviet Union. From what I have researched this actually very WELL may have what happened in reality when considering the role of the asteroid Lillith, which influences things such as dirty tricks, especially ones meant to deter a domineering world power over another, but even if that is the case, it is inconsequential and does not alter the perception that a new marker of Man's growth and progress as both a civilzed society and as denizens of a planet as a whole, had begun. Aquarius is the last embodiment of Man's rational mind where the intellect approaches the present with a very unique and speedy approach, projecting it way ahead into the future. Whether the Moon Landing actually occurred or not, it was a Utopian moment in time where all residents of Planet Earth looked towards the future and beyond as if we were one egalitarian society. Aquarius takes the "fairness and truth" of Libra and applies them through his impartial communication skills by speaking to every strata and age of society at large as an equal. Unsurprisingly the first words we heard uttered from the Moon were undeniably Aquarian when Neil Armstrong made his historic first lunar motions a global equalizer by saying "One small step for Man, one giant step for Mankind." With all the thoroughfare about the 40th anniversary of the Moon Landing, I heard only yesterday that initially Armstrong was NOT the first choice of astronaut to actually take the first human step on the Moon – Buzz Aldrin was, Armstrong was simply closer to the hatch door. However if we step back and look at the big picture as well as how definitive to mankind this moment in history is, no one else but Armstrong could take that first step – he was destined to astrologically. To come full circle to our opening "out there" lyrics to "The Age of Aquarius" where it begins by referring to the placement of the Moon itself - not only does this support my hypothesis but amazingly enough, Neil Armstrong himself was born with HIS Moon in the 7th house – LITERALLY!!! Add to that, his natal Moon was placed in the sign of foreign or exotic travel – Sagittarius. Along with that shocker, Armstrong’s Ascendant is in Gemini along with his Mars being placed in the first house in Gemini: put one way- he was meant to be a man who by his words (Gemini’s strongest mode of communication) would let the world know (the nature of the Ascendant or Rising Sign) of his actions made with his body (Mars) that take place in his local area or neighborhood (the domain of Gemini’s natural 3rd house). Put another way sounds perfect for someone who uttered to a globe of listeners with bated breath the historic phrase “One small step for man.” Lastly, Armstrong’s Midheaven, or the highest point of inspiration or possible goal achievement is in the sign of… Taurus!, ummm no, AQUARIUS!! Outer space and anything to do with space travel or even high tech science is under the domain of the Water Bearer. Armstrong’s destiny was to ascend to higher reaches that went beyond the skies of Earth itself. The man IS a living embodiment of the dawning of the Age of Aquarius!
