Libras are extremists. Libras are radicals. Libras believe in anarchy.............all in the name of Peace.
The Gemini in me revels when anything in life can be seen through the lens of duality, and for the Scales of Libra duality is so much more than Up/Down, High/Low.
Libra takes duality and makes it hardcore!
Being ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty and art, one would assume that the animal under Libra's domain would be some sugar coated prissy thing of a beast like a Toy Pekingese Puppy or a Unicorn. Not quite. Snakes, Lizards and any kind of small reptile like iguanas are Libra's animals. What's even more astounding is the sheer volume of Librans who actually OWN a python, gila monster, or boa constrictor as a pet!
Venus is also the planet of harmony and of peace itself and true, it is best not to argue or Heaven offend fight or wrastle in front of a Libra - these coarse actions will offend their delicate sensibilities! BUT when it comes to the Peace of their world being threatened or blatant injustice, The Libran becomes a radical extremist on an almost militant level.

*Mahatma Gandhi, a Libra, went to battle against both the imperialist British as well as the warring factions of India and pushed the envelope as far as humanly possible through the utilization of pacifism.

*Eleanor Roosevelt, a Libra, upon learning early on in the war of the Nazi "Final Solution" would disturb the peace of not only her husband's frantic daily agenda as President but would vocally interrupt Congress on a regular basis petitioning that the United States pass as many emergency VISAS as possible to allow any/every European Jewish child to enter this country. A deaf ear was turned to her bombastic disruptions none the same.

*Brigitte Bardot, a sex symbol and a Libra, who in the height of her attractive powers was likened to the goddess Venus herself, has risked her life on numerous occassions as well as has been imprisoned for disturbing the peace and breaking and entering - all in the name of animal rights.

*Gordon Matthew Sumner (aka Sting) rock icon and a Libra, horrified by the junta mass murders in Latin America not only became a major force for peace activism in defense of the victims from that area but also wrote the song “They Dance Alone” describing the peaceful but powerful act of retaliation Latin American women would take by holding photographs of their missing husband/son/brother and dancing with them in front of government municipal buildings.

To me, Libra's dualities are tipped into blissful balance by John Lennon. Born not only with a Libran Sun and an Aries Ascendant but his chart ruler, Mars the ruler of Aries in the sign of Libra, he made "Peace" much more than a pretty idea, he made it a state of constant action by using it as a battle cry through his declaration of war on war itself. When the Fab Four dissolved, this Libran did not bask in his luxuries and choose to be passive and lazy, he put both himself and his family at constant risk by organizing and attending "sit ins" imploring the end of the Vietnam War. By the sheer fact that he was a Beatle, throngs of media and press took note of these disrupitions of the peace in the name of peace, making John's actions global news.
Jumping from that scale of extremes, Lennon's 7th house ruler which is naturally ruled by Libra was in the sign of Libra at his birth. The 7th house is the house of marriage and idealistic love and John's marriage to Aquarian Yoko Ono is the closest example of "true love" I can think of. You would be hard pressed to think of a couple either personally or in fame who simply ADORED each other like John and Yoko did. EVERY piece of film footage shows them not just in their own little world being lovebirds, to me they seemed to be in a state of romantic bliss when they were in each other's presence.
One of my all time favorite Lennon songs is simply titled "O Yoko" where he'll sing about being in the bathroom shaving and his thoughts then being flooded with the words "O Yoko, my love will turn you on." Pure and unadulterated romantic sentiment!
Lastly, the 7th house is also the house of 1 on 1 partnerships and the 1 on 1 song writing team of Lennon and McCartney is rivaled by none. As John was balanced in love with Libra's perfect partner of Aquarius, so too were his artistic endeavors in a perfect place when he and his fellow air sign, Gemini Paul McCartney would write songs together. McCartney himself once said in an interview that John would "restore equilibrium" whenever he would get stuck writing a song. One of the best examples of this was when Paul was in a state of impatient frustration writing the song "Getting Better All The Time". He was plunking out the line "I admit it's getting better." to which Lennon harmoniously balanced off with "It couldn't get much worse."))

John Lennon took his Libran sensibilities and applied them to the best as one human in this world possibly could on both ends of the scales by being both the enemy of war and the lover of love and musical beauty.)
