    Heath Ledger - In Memoriam

    HEATH LEDGER  - IN MEMORIAM

    By Brad Kronen

    1/23/08

Everyone is stunned by the sudden death of Heath Ledger, one of the best actors of his generation.  I have made a few observations in regards to his death, since this event has touched so many people.  First off, let’s look at his birth chart:

Since his birthtime is unknown, I will not go into any house delineations but there are some major points that immediately stand out some obvious some not in regards to transits to his natal chart:

Saturn Return – The Saturn return happens to everyone from the ages of 28-30.  It is a challenging time for most because it is when we astrologically we become adults.  Saturn will remove any friend, lover, apartment, job, etc. that is no longer integral to our soul’s growth and if we choose to hold on to these things it can be unbearable.  Saturn as the planet of Karma will make things 10x harder if there is any stubborn clinging to anything we that is unproductive to our soul’s evolution.  At the time of Heath’s death his Saturn return was practically EXACT by 1 degree, Saturn being at 7 Virgo and Ledger’s natal Saturn at 8 Virgo.  The best weapons to use in order to beat oneself up for a person with a Virgo Saturn are perfectionism and feelings of unworthiness or not being good enough to meet his or someone else’s perceived perfect standards.  Things were definitely coming to a head as far as Ledger’s perspective of his artistic standards and how he saw his life was developing.

Mars Retrograde:  Since the birth time is unknown, we cannot be definite about Heath’s Ascendant or rising sign, but we do know that he is an Aries Sun.  Aries is ruled by Mars and since early December Mars has been retrograde or backwards in perception in its orbit.  Whenever a planet is in retrograde motion,  energies are turned inward first before outwards and are more receptive versus active.  Mars rules our drives – sex drive, work drive, appetite, blood flow, overall physical energy.  A person whose Sun is Mars ruled would be more susceptible during a Mars retrograde to feel run down, exhausted but not sleeping well and open to bouts of depression.  Mars ruled people are doers and their energies are always up and out and during this period they are almost forced to retreat internally.  Add this influence with our next planetary placement and it paints a background that is stark and emotionally dismal.

Full Moon:  Heath like another star snuffed way too early, Jimi Hendrix had a Cancerian Moon.  The Moon is the natural ruler of Cancer and for a male to have this placement is a challenge especially if that male’s Sun is in Aries.  The moon in Cancer makes a person extremely sensitive, naturally nurturing and intuitive and can be quite emotional in cycle like periods of time.  Western males are taught that boys don’t cry and are raised to never show emotions.  This would be even more of an inclination when that male is born with the Sun in Aries, a sign that is overtly masculine, aggressive, and outwardly action oriented.  At the time of Heath’s death the Moon was approaching fullness in its lunar cycle and a Full Moon would make any Cancer Moon person feel emotionally jolted on any given month, but for a person with an Aries Sun and an austere, rational-versus-emotional Virgo Saturn, most likely there would be a lot of stifled emotions that could have been pulled to the surface uncontrollably all at once during this time.

Relation of Jupiter & Uranus:  During a lecture I attended about Jupiter, the planet of luck, growth and opportunity,  the speaker startled the audience by opening the night with “I know you all came here to get info about winning the lottery or to have luck really kick into your life, but I would like to open the lecture and discuss Jupiter’s role with sudden deaths or suicides.  I have found that many people who commit suicide have a Jupiter transit over either Uranus, Saturn, or the South Node that give them the extra push if you will to leave this earth.”  I then stood up and announced that a good friend of mine had just taken his life the week before and that Jupiter was transiting his natal Uranus.  With the info given about Heath’s Cancerian moon, Jupiter at the time of his death was at 8 Capricorn, in opposition to his Cancerian moon.  Jupiter will amplify, expand or exaggerate whatever it touches, so it definitely seems like Heath was facing every demon and negative emotion from present to childhood all at once.  Jupiter was trining his natal Saturn making me think that he was really looking at the structure of his life in regards to the future and did he have what it took to measure up as an artist and a parent (Cancer and Capricorn have parental overtones).  Uranus was exactly transiting Heath’s south node at 16 Pisces.  As a karmic astrologer, whenever I see a transit to the south node I describe it as walking into the skeletons of one’s closet of this lifetime or getting in touch with behavior that is past life related.  When Uranus is the planet visiting the south node, there is this sense of it being all of a sudden in your face, rushing at you unexpectedly out of the blue.  Saddest of all is that both myself and my friend who took his life along with Heath have a natal Jupiter at 29 degrees.  29 is a karmic degree and when a planet is at this sensitive point at the very end of a sign one is meant to learn one’s biggest life lessons through the themes of that planet, but is also meant to find out that for most of the life that planet’s influence has been a blind spot and that the person not only will experience the effects of that planet but will most likely have some sort of divine gift or reward from it.  Heath Ledger had a very karmic Jupiter not only at 29 degrees but in the sign of its exaltation Cancer.  This would lead me to believe that up until this point he was a person who never relied on luck or good timing to advance one through life.  If anything I would think he thought that luck for him simply didn’t exist and that only challenging oneself through hard work and tangible proof of one’s achievements can only be the key to satisfaction.  If only I could have let him know that an exalted karmic Jupiter is a way of the universe telling that person that it will all work out in the end and that even if things seemed utterly void of hope that divine guidance and inspiration would come from it.  During that crucial period of his death, Heath Ledger probably felt that life could not be continued because there just simply was no hope or possible benefit in the future.  None of us can say that him leaving this world could very well be his way of finding out that the universe will take care of everything in the big picture, however as someone with a karmic Jupiter I will use this as an example to myself to always keep hope alive in one’s soul.
