Taurus - Pragmatic Sensualist or Stubborn Stick in the Mud?

    Photobucket
I'm betting this pic threw everyone off, including you Taurus'! The image that comes to mind when hearing Taurus is of a big lumbering cow or bull. Many people don't realize that Taurus is ruled by the planet of beauty, Venus and beauty is something natural to them and something they strive for.
Petr Ilyich Tchaikowsky, himself a Taurus, was born on May 7th* 1840. Many people do not realize that Tchaikowsky was a homosexual and his self loathing drove him to attempting suicide on more than one occassion. One of these attempts shows his vulnerability when during the Russian winter he went naked into the Arctic like Volga River attempting to freeze himself to death.
Tchaikowsky himself would dismiss any artistic merit attributed to the score he wrote for the ballet "The Nutcracker". It was only this year, when listening to the purity of the children's chorus sing during the "Waltz of the Snowflakes" that I exclaimed "This music is so.........so.........PRETTY." And so it is. Being Venus ruled, Tchaikowsky wrote music that in its entirety is sheer beauty itself. It was a natural expression of his Taurus artistry. If only he could have delighted in it as all of us do every time we hear or see "The Nutcracker" performed.
*Johannes Brahms, another composer of "sheer beauty" interestingly enough has Tchaikowsky's birthday of May 7th!

Taurus Song of the Day from Brad Kronen's "Welcome to the Zodiac" Series

Taurus - Song of the Day

One of the many hats I wear being the versatile Gemini I am is that I am a classicaly trained opera singer.  Now for all you opera fans out there, (all 4 of you) I must admit Wagner is not my favorite composer in the world.  Richard Strauss is much more my style.  What Wagner says in 2 hours, Strauss says in 20 minutes or less. Not surprisingly, Strauss and I share the same birthday.  BUT there are many aspects to Wagner that I completely relish and my favorite aria by him, is from my favorite opera by him called 'Tannhauser'  (umlaut on the second A), pronounced Tahn-HOI-zer.  Elisabeth's salute, "Dich Teure Halle" in English "I Greet you Dear Hall" is the perfect Taurus theme song! Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty and EVERYTHING about this aria is beautiful, especially the orchestral beginning.  The piece sweeps you up with full buoyant cheer as Elisabeth enters the great hall of her ancestral home.  Taurus gets security from their material posessions and the music reflects Elisabeth's marvel as she enters the hall and looks at this structure that is her home.  She then greets the hall, actually acknowledging the room as if it were a person.  Taurus' home and their possessions make them feel solid and centered and just like Elisabeth they are ready to face the world and anything in it when they have their things secure and safe.   All you Taurus' - please at least give this piece a listen, I don't want any arguments that you don't like classical music or opera, it's only about 4 freaking minutes long, you'll survive!  Most of those bulls will be their usual stubborn selves and not listen to this song but those that will I guarantee this aria will give them a smile on their face because they'll just "get it".
Richard Wagner, by the way, was born on the Taurus/Gemini cusp; his birthday being May 22, same as my Mom's.

As an afterthought of sheer amazement of how "life and art mirror astrology" it was only after I chose the song piece for Taurus that I realized how Taurean in every way this opera is, right down to the cast of characters!  One of the main characters in the opera "Tannhauser" is the goddess Venus, herself!  She represents the world of paganism, eroticism and lust and my favorite interpreter of that role was the late great Tatiana Troyanos, herself a Scorpio, the polar opposite of Taurus and the foil of the character of Elisabeth.  And if I may be so bold as to recommend to the hordes of you wondering actually WHICH selection of "Dich Teure Halle" you should listen to: Brad's definitive take is Birgit Nilsson, whose birthday is May 17th, can anyone say Taurus?

And here's the link to hear Nilsson singing the bullcrap out of this piece!

"Dich Teure Halle" Elisabeth's Salute from Wagner's Tannhauser

    Dich, teure Halle, gruss wieder,
froh gruss ich dich, geliebter Raum!
    In dir erwachen seine Lieder,
    und wecken
    mich aus dustrem Traum.
    Da er aus dir geschieden,
    wie od' ershienst du mir!
    Aus mir entfloh der Friede,
    die Freude zog aus dir.
Wie jetzt mein busen hoch sich hebet,
    so scheinst du jetzt mir stolz und hehr;
    der dich und mich
    so neu belebet,
nicht langer weilt er ferne mehr.

Sei mir gegrusst! Sei mir gegrusst!
    Du Teure Halle,
    Sei mir gegrusst!

    "I Greet you, Dear Hall"

I greet you, dear hall, once again,
Joyfully I greet you, beloved space!
    His songs awake in you
And waken me from gloomy dreams.
    When he departed from you
How desolate you appeared to me!
    Peace flew out from me,
    Joy took leave of you.
How strongly now my heart is leaping,
To me now you appear exalted and sublime.
He who thus revives both me and you
    Tarries afar no more.

I greet you! I greet you!
    Dear Hall, I greet you!

    “WELCOME TO THE ZODIAC” SERIES

Taurus - Pragmatic Sensualist or Stubborn Stick in the Mud?

    Monday, June8th @ 8PM PST

We now come upon the first of the Earth Signs - Taurus.  Taurus is in the "dead center" of the spring season and is our first example of "fixed" sign energy.  The fixed signs are all in the middle of each season and behave exactly as they are described - fixed.  Since Taurus is our first example they take fixed to the extreme by either being “slow and steady wins the race” pragmatists with good follow through OR having a stubborness SO immovable and mountainlike that the term "bull headed" really doesn't do it justice.  The earth signs are all about the tangible - what they can see, touch, taste, feel (anything else, like o, I don’t know astrology or Tarot is voodoo hoopla!).  Taurus especially focuses on the tangible in that they get security from their material possessions or tangible assets.  An “evolved” focus is the business savvy Taurean who ends up in either banking or corporate real estate; and an “unevolved” focus is the upper middle class woman who drove to the supermarket in the latest model of Mercedes and is not budging in an argument with the store manager that her coupons should be honored, regardless that they are 3 months expired.

So let's move closer in pasture to get a good look at these cows, I mean bull people - Taurus!

Taurus Fun Fact:  Taurus, like Libra, is ruled by Venus, the planet of romance but also of aesthetics and good taste.  Golden Advice - the Venus ruled signs have really good taste, and yes, probably better than yours.  So save the gag, potty humor or overall cheap gift for the fire signs who don't know any better and who get quite a lot of enjoyment out of any of those 3 choices.  Be warned!  It is far far better to give a Taurus or a Libra a handwritten note with some daisies you just picked or even better, nothing at all than a cheap or gag gift.  It's all about quality with them not quantity and they have been known to sever friendships over cheap gifts!

    Tune in Monday at 8PM!

Aries - Fearless Leader or Is It All Just ME ME ME?
    Wednesday, June 3rd, @ 8PM, PST

The thing I love about Aries, is what you see is what you get. When an Aries is mad at you, they get angry, yell and then say "I'm hungry, wanna get something to eat?" There is no passive aggressiveness or anything else that needs to be read between the lines. Being the first of the 12 signs and with their identity phrase being "I AM" Aries are always their straightforward selves. So my Aries icon is as straightforward as they come - a stunning photo of a REAL ram, taken by a very talented photographer named Alfonso Sanchez.

Aries Song of the Day from Brad Kronen's "Welcome to the Zodiac" Series

Aries - Song of the Day

The thing I love about an Aries is what you see is what you get.  They are the first sign of the zodiac and their motto is "I AM".   So whatever an Aries' state of being is, that is what you'll see.   You will never have anything covered over with passive aggressive stuff or non verbal behavior.  If an Aries is hungry, he tells you he's hungry and he goes to eat.  If you want to eat with him, sure go ahead, but he's eating now.  If an Aries is tired, she's tired.  She's going to bed and if there are any people in the house they can let themselves out, but she's going to bed now.  Most importantly, if an Aries is mad at you, they yell at you.  And after they yell at you, they'll look at you and say "I'm hungry, wanna get something to eat?"  Nothing is ever held over your head, no grudges are ever secretly kept with children of the Ram and i think that's a beautiful thing.  So my song of the day for Aries is a song all about them just being them "I've got to be Me" by Al Martino.

    "I've Gotta Be Me"

Whether I'm right or whether I'm wrong
Whether I find a place in this world or never belong
I gotta be me, I've gotta be me
What else can I be but what I am

I want to live, not merely survive
And I won't give up this dream
Of life that keeps me alive
I gotta be me, I gotta be me
The dream that I see makes me what I am

That far-away prize, a world of success
Is waiting for me if I heed the call
I won't settle down, won't settle for less
As long as there's a chance that I can have it all

I'll go it alone, that's how it must be
I can't be right for somebody else
If I'm not right for me
I gotta be free, I've gotta be free
Daring to try, to do it or die
    I've gotta be me

I'll go it alone, that's how it must be
I can't be right for somebody else
If I'm not right for me
I gotta be free, I just gotta be free
Daring to try, to do it or die
    I gotta be me!

And since I was on a roll, I also chose another non-lyric song for Aries - the Olympic Theme.  Old astrology texts would assign athletics and those athletes who achieve great heights to Sagittarius.  I have never felt that to be correct.  Aries are all about action and motion and their planetary ruler is Mars the planet that directs how our energy levels are, how fast we are, how we move our bodies.  Aries are natural athletes. This  was confirmed when I was watching the winter Olympics in 2006 and they were listing profiles for all the athletes.  Aries was number one for the birthday of most of them.)

Aries - Fearless Leader or is it all Just ME ME ME?

    Where: www. blogtalkradio.com/bradkronen
    When: June 3rd, 8PM, PST

To begin the “Welcome to the Zodiac” series who better to start things off than the sign that is used to being # 1 - Aries! The spring equinox, aka the first day of spring, aka the first day of Aries, is in astrology the first day of the year.  That's why whenever you look at a horoscope it always starts with people born under the sign of the Ram and proceeds to every sign after Aries. The first house which Aries naturally rules is the house of the "self".  Therefore, the evolved Aries is naturally "SELF concerned" and the unevolved Aries is downright SELF-ish!

Tune in on Wednesday at 8PM to learn more about the children of Mars - ARIES!

Aries Astrological Fun Fact :  Margaret Mitchell, author of “Gone With The Wind” was ALSO a professional astrologer and every character in that book/film are archetypes of each of the signs of the zodiac.  One of the most famous heroines in both literature and film, Scarlett O’Hara was Mitchell’s representation for the sign of Aries.

Aries is ruled by Mars, the red planet, RED = SCARLETT!

Aries Scienctific Fun Fact:  Did you know on the first day of Aries, the spring equinox, the earth is not tilted on its axis but is proportionally balanced on that one day so that anyone on earth that day can make an egg stand on its own?
