State Rep. Nikki an Indian American Haley wins Republican nomination for the governorship in South Carolina, defeating Rep. Gresham Barrett Tim Scott an African American defeated Paul Thurmond for the GOP nomination. Paul Thurmond is the son of the former Senator Strom Thurmond. Elaine Marshall wins the North Carolina Democratic U.S. Senate primary. She will face Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) in November. In Utah, Mike Lee wins the Senate Republican primary.
