Walmart and the Washington, D.C., Walmart say it will stop work on three large stores under construction in D.C.—and cancel plans for three more in the planning stages.The D.C Large Retailer Accountability Act would force companies with sales greater than $1 billion occupying big boxes  to pay a minimum wage of $12.50. In Watertown,MA council president Mark S. Sideris said he believes residents’ strong negative reaction to a Walmart store in their town influenced the retailer’s decision to put aside its plans.“There are a number of “No Walmart, No Big Boxes” signs on people’s lawns at this point,” Sideris said. “The movement was growing.”In June 2013, Walmart Inc. filed a lawsuit against Gene Lantz, the North Texas chapter of JWJ, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, and the Organization United for Respect at Walmart (OURWalmart), alleging trespass.
