Today, we're taking a time-out from meeting authors on Author's Beat. We're going to flip 180 degrees and speak with the people for whom the books are written--you--the reader.

Our guest is Kathy Porter, the chairperson of the 150 member Bookworm Club in The Villages in central Florida. The Villages is the largest 55+ active retiree community in the United States--and possibly the world.

A few years ago the club started with 12 members, seven of whom still attend meetings. Membership is up to about 150, primarily women. Bookworm has to turn people away because the meeting room's capacity is only 83. Each month there is a different facilitator, that starts the discussion and keeps it going.

Author’s Beat is sponsored by The Writers League of the Villages. The program is hosted by award-winning author Mark H. Newhouse and was created by prize-winning journalist Don Canaan and Mark Newhouse.
