Book and Author Talk

When was the last time I wrote an actual column? Gee, it’s bad when I can’t remember the last time I dashed out a column entry. Actually, I couldn’t even tell any of you the last time I watched wrestling just for fun—at least until the last month or so.

Within the last two years, tuning in almost every night but Wednesday and the weekend was spent on research, and character ideas, along with the occasional diversion from writer’s block. Aside from the latter, one tends to become bored watching about the same people over and over, reading “news” rubbish that’s basically recycled week after week, and for a while,
I’d fallen out of love with wrestling as a whole.

I stopped watching for a considerable amount of time, not only because I needed to finish my book, The Cruiserweight in order to meet a deadline to get on my publisher’s desk in time for it to be developed on time for its paperback release, but also I was just plain bored.

In between, I’ve been involved with a new author site since May, and recent promo work pertaining to my own book (interviews, appearances, etc.). Meanwhile, when there isn’t any decent programming on television and I’m tired of playing music, I tune in to a wrestling show or two, even if it’s just for a few minutes (With a lot of the program lineups on TV these days—especially with all the “reality” show trash—I can see why my mother called it “the idiot box.” May she rest in peace.)

Indy wrestling is also a wonderful discovery. Thank goodness for YouTube, being that HDNet isn’t available around my parts to check out ROH. Between it and Dragon Gate (their pay per views often play on cable and satellite; check your area listings. They‘re also a reasonable price for excellent entertainment), there’s high-quality wrestling to be found, and if anyone hasn’t yet discovered either, I suggest you do. I spent a lot of time on YouTube last weekend catching up on both promotions since the Steelers had a bye week, and Sunday television around here left much to be desired.

When I’m not busy, I’ll visit wrestling sites to keep up with the latest happenings, along with catching up with what friends are doing. For those who checked out my book so far, many thanks. For those who are still waiting for the paperback, if things stay on schedule, I’m hoping The Cruiserweight in that media will be released between the end of this year or perhaps early 2011 at the latest.

Meanwhile, check out my site for updates at http://www.lannecarrington.com or follow me on Twitter @lacarrington1. Looking forward to your thoughts!
