A popular author in her own right, and a frequent flyer in multiple groups dedicated to writing and editing, Laurie is also an exceptional editor, and knows the ins and outs of making a story the best it can be.  The writing process is complicated, and readers expect certain things, regardless of genre, and Laurie and Dave will discuss this. We encourage callers, readers and writers alike. When you call in, here's what you can do: Writers: 1. Share a particular issue you have with story creation or writing. 2. Share any confusion you have about how to do something the correct way (if there is a correct way :)) 3. Share a (brief) sample and ask for feedback. If you are a reader: 1. Read a sample you think could be better. 2. Share an author you like and why their writing works for you. Writers and readers alike, ask questions share and learn! (And maybe teach us a few things in the process). I'd just had a short story published in the school magazine, and won a prize of a book for my privilege. I knew I had wanted to write since I could write sentences. 28 years later I am realising that dream.   I am Kristina Jackson. I am in my mid thirties, wife, mother of two, owner of one dog and slave to two cats. One of my cats, Bono, is my writing companion. He is often found sharing my lap with my laptop or partially draped over the keyboard if I am using the laptop on the desk.   I suffer from a condition called POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) I have become disabled by it, but as physical doors have shut the mental ones opened. I am not just a horror writer, my book, DAKOTA is more “mainstream.” I am the editor for May December Publications and have the final say on anything we publish.  I play guitar, sing, and have been in a few cover bands and done some studio recording. My life experiences have taken me from the North Pole to Egypt and all over the world. I was a submarine Sonarman during the apex of the Cold War (the 80s). I am a lifelong KISS fan. I have a Border Collie named Aoife (eye-fa) to keep me from sitting at my desk for 12 hours at a time. He left England in 2007 for a new life in France and has been recording events since his brother’s unconventional death in 2002. Susan Goodsell, co-author and Peter’s niece, lives in England with her partner and their two now grown sons. She spent many years in London before returning to Kent in 1997. The year her father died she began teaching English in a secondary school.  Now after finishing work, she returns home to begin another shift, as a detective and writer. The Perfect Crime: A Story of Truth or Fantasy,a new book by Peter Hindley & Susan Goodsell, has been released by RoseDog Books. Events have accurately been recorded since the time of Alan’s death; they combine to reveal an intriguing story. Did he die naturally or was he helped in some way? Has a crime or two taken place? Some may think so. Maybe there is a conspiracy. If so, how far it may extend is unclear. Nothing is quite as it should be. This unique book evolves from a simple account to a vast scandalous exposé, a true and topical account showing a fascinating view of human nature, society, and the establishment in the United Kingdom. I remember playing and inventing stories, using my dolls as props for other characters. Then I started telling myself stories before falling asleep, at night, and finally I tried to write a short story… a western. Of course it was awful, and I threw it away a few years later, when I attempted writing a western novel instead. I still have it, but I can tell it will not come out of my attic, ever! Then for some years I was too busy (and drained) with the University to think about writing, I got married, became a mom, and that, together with my translation job, absorbed most of my time. Then I met a writer that was my “idol” at the time, Mariangela Cerrino. Together with a few other people, we found the Star Trek Italian Club, and soon created a couple of fanzines. I was asked to write a few stories, and I discovered I was doing a good job… “How do You Feel” won the award as Italian best nonprofessional SF short story! At that point, I tried with a Star Trek novel, “The Caves of Arcadia”, (it got a third placement as best nonprofessional SF novel of the year).  Life then got in between my writing and me. I divorced, and for a few years I was too busy raising two young daughters too think about anything else. Then, just when I thought my occasion had slipped by me, I met that Italian publisher and got that offer for some cat books, an idea I had been caressing for some time. Through Book Junkies, I then met Inknbeans Press, and that made my biggest dream (being published in the US, since I have always written in English) get real. I’ll be forever grateful to Boss Bean and all the staff for giving me that chance, for believing I could make it!  00:32:00Tales And Tellersnobooks, authors, author interviews, authors and books, writersHost David Cleinman welcomes Annarita Guarnieri, who tells us: I suppose I had a writer hidden inside even since I was a small child. In San Francisco, my first stop in the US, I saw two giant ladies in hot pink and blue walking down the hill and could not believe how big they were. I was an alien in its true sense. I have so many stories to tell. I want to tell what is like in planet China and how different and similar we are. Writing found me by no accident.  Before I was 18, I lived a life of misery and tragedy without knowing it.  When I went to college, the renowned Peking University and studied physics, I discovered the literature and realized that I lived a typical writer’s life.  It is my duty to write it down and tell it to the world.  Even today, I still live under such obligation.  In the last two decades, my life has undergone dramatic changes by moving to the United States from Beijing, China, married and had a beautiful son.  I also managed to write at least two book manuscripts and four of my short stories have been published by: “Paris Transcontinental” “Salmon Magazine” “The Great River Review” “Do You Know Me Now” Fantasy Island Book Publishing has published my novel “Last Kiss in Tiananmen Square” and my linked short story collection “Chinese Lolita” is forthcoming. In 1992, my short story “My ‘Uncle’” has won the second prize in the WICE short story competition organized by the Paris Writer’s Workshop. 00:31:00Tales And Tellersnobooks, authors, author interviews, authors and books, writersWhen I first came to this country, I felt like landing on a different planet. Both sides of my family were from performing families in Kansas City, Missouri and I was trained from an early age in dance, vocal, art and musical instruments. My father was a Naval band leader. During the Great Depression, my mother helped to support her family by tap dancing in the speakeasys even though she was just a teen; she was very tall for her age but made up like an adult. I had music and art on all sides of my family which ultimately helped to feed my imaginative mind and desire to succeed. I married a wonderful Cherokee artist from Oklahoma, in fact the very area that I write about in the Wheezer series of novels. After raising my family, we came to Branson, Missouri and I performed in my own one woman show there for twelve years. To honor my father, I performed under the name Kitty Kelley. I have three music albums and several original songs to my credit and I am best known for my comical, feel good song called, It Ain't Over Till The Fat Lady Sings. I have been writing for many years, but did not try to publish any of it. However, in 2011 Inknbeans Press accepted my manuscript of a historical Native American murder mystery. First in a line of stories featuring Wheezer, a Jack Russell Terrier and his Cherokee friend, Sasa, it is called, Wheezer And The Painted Frog. I live in the southwestern corner of Missouri near Branson with my husband of 40 years and my three Jack Russell Terriers, one of which is the real and wonderful Wheezer.     http://www.inknbeans.com/kitty-sutton.html http://www.kittysutton.weebly.com 00:31:00Tales And Tellersnobooks, authors, author interviews, authors and books, writersMy pen name is Kitty Sutton, but I was born Kathleen Kelley to a Cherokee/Irish family. About Susan: Born in 1971, I am a third-generation native Arizonan. My grandfather's family arrived here from Missouri in 1912, just after Arizona became a state. I frequently use my native region as the setting for my novels. Two of my novels, Circle City Blues and An Unassigned Life, are seriocomic. Both of them have received excellent reviews. In fact, An Unassigned Life was recently compared to Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit in a Goodreads.com review. The Thief of Todays and Tomorrows is historical fiction set in post-WWII Chicago and Phoenix. It follows the life of an unwilling mafia wife. The Prophet's Wives is contemporary dramatic fiction about a man who believes his own press a little too much. My fifth book, Forsaking the Garden, follows Irene, a fourteen-year-old girl raised by polygamists, as she explores the world that she never knew existed. Wild Life and Charmed Life, my sixth and seventh books, are also the first two books of the Brass Monkey series, which centers around a group of Baby-Boomer bar patrons. The third novel in the series, Night Life, will be released by Inknbeans Press in Spring 2012.
