This is my developmental area. I use it to test various ideas. If the demo show has potential, we set up it's own show page and begin developing content. I am currently developing a show for the Red Cross' Vendor Program and the EcoGuides, a series with ecotourism theme.

    Date / Time:

    Jack Humphrey to Reschedule

If you tuned in, you soon learned that Jack hit some traffic and wasn't able to join me. You also noticed that like any other BTR host, I decided to talk. I hope it wasn't too boring. Next time, I'll upload some backup files and a little more music.

I figured I would use the opportunity to practice a couple of things and to talk about some of the shows that I am producing. Right now, I have five. I've done as many as 8 in one week, but that was for a couple of special events. You may, if you are so inclined, check out BlogTalkRadioGuy.com for January's schedule. I'll post it after Christmas.

As I mentioned during my monolgue, I believe there are two approaches to BlogTalkRadio. One, you do the show for yourself. The other, you do it for someone else. Or, an organization. It is, after all, social media. Personally, I think being social is a willingness to help other people, whether you get paid for it or not.

I do the website for Operation Green Leaves, a 501c3 organization based in Miami, Florida - OGLHaiti.com. The organization is dedicated to reforesting Haiti. As I became more impressed with the BTR platform, I decide to produce a weekly show for Nadine Patrice, the executive director. Every Saturday, I'm the board operator, and sometimes, co-host. We talk about environmental issues in Haiti, and South Florida, with members of organizations such as the Friends of the Everglades. We also talk with people who live in Haiti, like Jane Wynne who has a farm in Kenscoff in  the barren mountains outside Port-au-Prince. She tries to convince people to not cut down the remaining trees and to plant bamboo to stop soil erosion. Reforest Haiti. Talk about a dream. But Jane is optimistic and says her call to NYC to be on our BlogTalkRadio show is a highlight of her week. Gabrielle Vincent left the security of a job in Atlanta to help peasant farmers try to survive in the hills of Limonade, near Cap Haitian. After hurricane Ike, Gabrielle said we were the connection to the outside world. Check out her organization - www.sonjeayiti.com.

There many not be hundreds of listeners, but the value of internet radio is clear.

I just read a report from Media Post blogs, the Online Metrics Insider, that has a direct connection to BlogTalkRadio, even though the platform was not mentioned by name. David Smith's story - Podcasting Killed the Satellite Star - talks about the impact that internet communcation is now having. Read the story, if you have time, particulary if you're a BTR host, or you're thinking about it.

I've been assured Jack will not allow his significant traffic to prevent him from joining me the next time.  Check out his site: www.jackhumphrey.com for the Friday Traffic Report.
