President Barack Obama will award the nation's highest award for valor in combat, the Medal of Honor, to Army Sgt. 1st Class Leroy Arthur Petry on Tuesday, July 12 at 2 p.m. EST. Petry is being awarded the medal for his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty in the Paktia Province, Afghanistan, in May 2008. Petry will be the second living Medal of Honor recipient from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan (see attachment for official Medal of Honor poster).
