    The Trouble with Pills

While many of us enjoy the benefits of supplements, pain relievers, appetite suppressants, and any number of other products, we don’t necessarily enjoy taking pills.  In fact, for some of us, taking pills is a new form of torture!  Plus sometimes we have trouble with stomach upset or have medical conditions that make it difficult to take pills. Our bodies have to work extra hard to get the benefits of pills.  Our stomach has to breakdown the capsule and the contents metabolized by the liver and then, finally delivered to the rest of our body through the circulatory system. Plus we have to remember to take the pills, sometimes multiple times a day.  But what are the alternatives?  Are there any alternatives?

Another way to get medications, supplements, and other products beneficial to our bodies is through a patch.  We have all heard of patches for lots of different things including seasickness and smoking cessation.  Why not a patch for our vitamins?  What about a patch for appetite suppression?  In fact, a patch is a preferable method for delivering active compounds directly into the circulatory system.  Plus you don’t have to remember things multiple times a day.  You put the patch on and forget it.  You can go to work, go to school, exercise, even swim and the patch stays in place.

The benefits of supplements, appetite suppressants, and other potentially helpful products without all the hassle of pills, the patch is the way to go.  When looking at products that are delivered by patches, there are some things to keep in mind.  First, look at how the product is delivered by the patch.  Some patches use a method where the entire product is in the center of the patch.  This can result in somewhat unreliable delivery into the circulatory system.  A delivery system where the product is found in the adhesive results in a much more consistent delivery system.  Also look at how big the patch is and on what part of the body the patch has to be attached.  How many patches are you going to have to wear to get all the benefits you want.

Patches are a great alternative to pills for some products.  There are some products that may not work via a patch, so be sure to do your homework.
