Many people get into network marketing having little or no experience in the field.  Even if you have been in sales before, network marketing is not the same.  Most companies know this and have developed extensive training not only for their specific products, but for network marketing in general.  Be prepared, this is no something you are going to learn overnight.

What about changes?  Do you like to keep in your field with new methods and ideas?  Network marketing, like almost any profession, is ever-changing.  There are always new methods to try.  The technology frequently changes.  Network marketers and the companies they work for are always looking for improvements in the methods they use to communicate both within the company and with customers.  Constant training is a must.

Network marketers also spend a great deal of time working with others in their organization.  They pass ideas back and forth, pass on any helpful information they find, and just generally help each other perfect their communication skills, learn about products, and just generally support each other.  Network marketing, like the name implies, involves networking—both inside and outside the organization.  If you like to be a lone wolf, network marketing may not be the career for you.

All work requires some discipline.  You have to show up, do something (or look like you are doing something) for some specified length of time.  Most jobs require that you do this at least five days a week for eight hours day.  If you don’t do these things, you won’t have to worry too much because you will be asked to leave.

Network marketing is a little different.  In network marketing there is no “boss.”  If you don’t work, no one is going to get angry with you.  (Although the person that recruited you may try to encourage you to do something.)  Unlike you job, however, if you don’t do something (i.e., work your business), you won’t make any money.  Even if you do work, if you don’t work effectively you won’t make any money either!

You need to ask yourself he following questions.  First, are you self-motivated?  Will you work even if no one is watching?  Can you avoid “distractions” and stay focused?  If you need a lot of hand holding, network marketing may not be for you.

Second, can you continue to work consistently even when the rewards or money may not happen immediately?  There is something called the 90 day rule in network marketing.  It basically means that the full benefit of you effort will not be realized until 90 days later.  That doesn’t mean that good things won’t happen in between, just that the maximum benefit may not be there.

Third, do you like to learn things independently?  While most companies offer some form of training (and many offer very extensive training), you still need to learn what they are teaching pretty much on your own.  Often the lesions are online so you can access them whenever it is convenient for you.  There may be conference call and in person training opportunities, but most of the training is on your own.  If you get easily frustrated and impatient with training and need a lot of assistance to learn, network marketing may not be the career for you.  While it may be true that the people that recruited you into the business or someone higher up in the organization will help you when you are new, their patience (and help) will quickly disappear if you are not making the effort or if you don’t seem to be progressing.

A career in network marketing is work!  It takes discipline to put forth the consistent effort to grow your business and it takes discipline to continue to learn and grow.

I was walking through the internet and ran across a story by Ronda Del Boccio, The Story Lady on March 30, 2009 at http://profitablestorytelling.com/blog/2009/03/30/how-does-changing... all about How to Tank Your Business and How Does Changing Your Direction Change Your Results? Well after reading this I deceided to be Mr Paul Harvey and give "The rest of the story......

People call me a blind visionary for a reason having no sight has given me great insight.

I see the signs of what is on the horizon for a business and act accordingly. This means that I stop doing business with someone who is going down a path of greed or a path that shows they are flushing their business down the toilet so it ends up in the sewer.

So here’s the story for today.

Imagine that there is a company that makes a truly delicious coffee. It is a one of a kind coffee and no other MLM is roasting coffee in this way. I’ll call this company Bore-ing. Two men co-own the company. One of the men is Marty the Bluejay. He runs after the latest Bright Shiny Object (BSO) that glitters and sparkles and grabs his attention.All he cares about is the people that can bring a flock with you to the company. So if you bring in under 100 in your flock, you do not even count.

When something new and exciting comes along, he drops everything he is doing and chases the BSO.

His partner, Salesman Sam, aka Glad-handing Nathan, is a hard core kind of guy who is always looking for a new profit stream. Enter Dr. Black Widow.

Dr. Black Widow spins a web of stories about how her product will be a blessing to millions of people. Her story is sweet and compelling. The problem she solves is so very big and her solution the brightest of Bright Shiny Objects there is. A solution to a heavy problem that causes over half the US population to be weighed down.

Dr. Black Widow presented her astounding BSO to the owners of BORE-ING. Can you imagine what happened? You bet. She is now been promoted to God's right hand and don't you dare try to questions a supreme being.

It goes right back to the question that opened this post, and perhaps it is something that has happened to YOU.

How does changing your direction change your results?

Well a little more info is needed......

Dr. Black Widow’s aim is to take over control of companies. She ensnared Marty the Bluejay and Glad-handing Nathan in her web of deceit. What a perfect marriage of her technology and theirs! What money they will make together! How many lives they will change! Oh, indeed she wove an intricate web!

You’re bright enough to have guessed what happened by now. Marty the Bluejay and Gladhanding Nathan fell under the spell of her poison. They decided that a good business venture for a coffee company would be to sell male hormone pills, yep you guess it Male enhancement grow it long and with a smile. I guess that’s another form of raising energy? Gee how do I explain this to teh Girl Scouts that are using my coffee for a fund raiser that they can enhance daddy too? Won't momy be so proud of me? (Have you thought of tai chi or deep breathing?)

As it turns out, Dr. Black Widow has left a long trail of sticky situations in her wake. It takes a little research, but at least 17 companies have fallen under Dr. Black Widow’s spell. BORE-ING is thoroughly bound in her sticky poison, and they’re going down. Maybe not this month. Maybe not even this year. But they are definitely tanking the business. Dr. Black widow's patents are suspect and questionable and even her DR is in question. Can not find her Clinical trials or even her lab at a PO BOX.

The thing is, they have changed the direction of the company and every company she has touched and not for the good. It is like going into a tire store and finding that they sell toss pillows too. And even though the tires may roll great and the pillows toss divinely, you don’t go to a tire shop for toss pillows.

BORE-ING’s coffee is great, but you don’t get those Johnny jump-up pills at a cafe!

Choose Your Direction.

One of the most important things you can do in any business, whether you are an author or an
architect, a broker or a builder, is to choose your direction. You have to know where you want to go in order to get anywhere meaningful.

What’s your direction? Where do you want to be in 3–5 years in every aspect of your life? You won’t know everything that will happen along the way, but everything you choose to do should lead you one step closer to your goals and dreams.

Are you thinking strategically, or tactically? Most people are thinking tactically. I need traffic, so I’ll buy this traffic product. I need money, so I’ll buy a make money program. I hear PPC is good, so I’ll get a PPC program. Those are tactics. If you’re thinking strategically, you’re playing your business like a game of chess.
