Host Deardra Shuler talks with bassist Carlos Henriquez who w/special guest Bobby Allende and Marc Quinones open Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynthon Marsalis 2015-16 season entitled Back In the Bronx. This show will premiere on Saturday, 9/12 at 8:00 p.m. at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx. Henriquez will debut his new compositions and arrangements by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis premiering selections from The Bronx Pyramid CD. The Bronx-born, Nuyorican veteran bassist is one of the first truly bilingual musicians equally virtuosic with the language of jazz and the Afro-Latin tradition. Henriquez is a force to be reckoned with. By age 14, he was performing at People's Park with Latin jazz greats like Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, and Celia Cruz. A music director for countless performances, Henriquez presents music that shows the breadth of his technical and stylistic dexterity, where his compositions and most notable arrangements will be front and center. Themed ‘Jazz and American Song', Jazz at Lincoln Center's 28th season celebrates the music of the stage and silver screen and uplifts jazz's emerging voices through an impressive array of more than 80 concerts and programs, anchored by the exceptional Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
