Host Deardra Shuler invites playwright Greg Kalleres to talk about his play entitled “HONKY.”  Through his comic production, Greg brings the issue of race to the forefront to explore the racism embedded within us all, whether in denial or not.  Can a pill cure us all? Well we will see what Greg has to say about the play's hypothetical theory.  Stay tuned on Sunday, October 27th at 3:00 pm to see if indeed its possible to discuss race and racism, facing issues that are not just black and white.

 

Greg Kalleres received his BFA from Tisch's Dramatic Writing Program at NYU. His plays have been produced in numerous cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Chicago and Beirut, Lebanon. Greg received the Certificate of Excellence from the Kennedy Center, is a two-time finalist for the Lila Acheson American Playwrights Program at Juilliard and a two-time finalist for Aurora Theatre Company's Global Age Project. His one-act plays have won top honors at the Samuel French Festival, Turnip Festival and Fusion Theatre One Act Play Festival. Greg's work has been published in the New York Times, TDF Stages Magazine, Cracked.com and United Stages' "Best of EATFest" Volumes 3 and 4. He has also been featured in African American newspapers.  

 

His latest play, “WRECKED,” was commissioned by the Three Jennys Theater Company, recently secured $50,000 from the Speranza Foundation Lincoln City Fellowship. In addition to playwriting, Greg has written, produced and won numerous awards for his commercials for ESPN, Nike, Brand Jordan, Budweiser, Google and Twitter. Greg was the lead writer on the award winning "This is SportsCenter" campaign and created ESPN's Monday Night Football campaign: "Is it Monday Yet?" Greg's screenplay, LAST DAY MAN, was optioned by Evamere Entertainment.
