International star Johnny Mathis, who has given few interviews in the past, has agreed to talk with Host Deardra Shuler about his upcoming May 21, 8pm performance at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx.  Mr. Mathis is expected to sing songs like "Misty," "Chances Are," "It's Not For Me to Say," and a mix of jazz and classic standards.  Born in Gilmer, Texas, Mathis grew up in San Francisco.  Prior to his singing fame, he excelled in basketball, high jumping, hurdling, and track and field and was offered a chance to compete at the Olympic Games.  Unfortunately, he was offered a record contract at the same time.  Johnny's father felt his son should consider a future in music.  Thus, he did not compete in the Olympics as planned. Mr. Mathis holds his own star in the Walk of Fame and has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame twice.  He has sold millions of records and is only one of 5 recording artists to have Top 40 hits spanning each of the four decades since 1955.  Mathis is an avid golfer.  He hosted his own golf tournament, The Johnny Mathis Senior PGA Classics held in L.A.  He also hosted The Shell/Johnny Mathis Golf Classic, a charity golf tournament in Belfast, in Northern Ireland.  According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Mr. Mathis has sold over 350 Million records worldwide.
