Dr Wilmer Leon is also a Teaching Associate in the Department of Political Science at Howard University in Washington, DC.

Most people in the United States and perhaps the world have heard the much-publicized story of the arrest of Harvard Professor Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the ensuing controversy. The debate has wrongly been divided along racial and political lines and many are basing their views on false or incomplete information. What President Obama deemed a teachable moment for America might have been lost in rhetoric. Dr. Leon wrote that Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. failed Black Man 101 in his article Dr.Gates, Malcolm X Said A Black Man With A PhD Is.....

While most of America may have moved on from the Gates incident for too many Americans, problems with Racial Profiling remain. What procedures should anyone stop or detained by police follow? Is Racial Profiling a issue that needs to be taken up by the Federal legislature or is it best handled at the State level?
