Another problem you touched on is the practice of people running for office accepting money from people who are not or will not be their constituents. That bastardization of representative government is the main reason that a half trillion dollars isn't enough money to win a Presidential election.

Guns and drugs are two different subjects. Drug distribution has become a violent enterprise for the same reason that liquor distribution became a violent enterprise during prohibition. That problem can be cured without imposing additional restrictions on the people.

To answer your question, the only reason that a person would need this type of weapon would be to defend themselves from someone who is similarly armed (with the key word being - defend). I would support such a ban if it applied to every person, without regard for who employs them. There is no use for them in an urban environment. However, I oppose the concept that any rights are granted by and or can be taken away by the government.
