Black America’s Dilemma - How Do African Americans Attain Success in America as individuals and as a people, without “Selling out” to White America”. This week’s topic is in response to an email I received from a listener; here is what he had to say. ------ "Malik, I've been following your show and listening to some of your discussions for the past few weeks. I've become more and more interested in the subject matter and hoped to hear a discussion about what you think Blacks/African Americans should aspire to over the course of the next 10,50,100 years. I understand that it is important to maintain a cultural tie when advancing an individual black family's status in society (to avoid "selling out"/ or "being white"), but in society, business, and politics, what is your goal for Black America then? To be more specific, what is your vision for an America where all races are truly treated equally in society, business, politics, etc? For example, President Obama identifies himself as a black man. I am sure we could unanimously agree that he is successful. However, some people, you may or may not, believe he is only successful because he has "sold out to white society" to advance. In that case, how should a black man/woman represent himself or herself to strike a balance between maintaining black individuality and integrity and still being able to advance themselves and their families in U.S. society? If you do not have the time to make this a subject of your radio I understand, but I would love to know your opinion on the questions I've asked. Thank you, pwoods8882" ------ The listener’s questions are quite appropriate and deserve serious discussion and dialogue. Please join me and my co-host Barrett Holmes Pitner this week to tackle the fundamental question: How Do African Americans Attain Success in America as Individuals and as a people, without “Selling out” to White America”
