Perfect Board Member With Expert Cal Clemons

Calvin K. Clemons, CAE, CMP, founder and president of Clemons & Associates, Inc., and author of newly released book, The Perfect Board knows what he's talking about.

The perfect board is comprised of perfect board member characteristics.  Here's just 7 of them:

    Integrity - honesty, open exchanges

Reponsibility - get the job done, step forward when asked

Commitment - takes time, energy and $

Decision Maker - ability to make a decision and stand by it

Forward Thinking - ability to think beyond today and see tomorrow

Patience - it takes time to get the right things done and communicate with all people

Facts - no room for generalities, need to study the core facts

If you're not ready to step up to a Board position, try volunteering on a Committee first.  Give it a taste.  Learn more about the organization, staff and members.

Top 5 ways being a Board member can explode your career:

    1.  Gives you experience.

    2.  Provides leadership growth.

    3.  Builds tremendous confidence working in industry, community, career path ...

    4.  Expands your professional network.

    5.  Eases a career transition - add it to your resume.  It counts!

Ending with words from the wise.  Translation:  a Mark Twain quote:

"Always do right.  This will gratify some people and astonish the rest".

Becoming a Board member is serious business.  Be clear on vision and expectations.  Make sure you know what you want, what they want and there's a per-fect fit.
