Boosting Your Career Opportunities with Jim Durbin and Harry Joiner

Let's face it!  Self-branding and integrating social media tools in the job search process is fast emerging as the hottest way to boost your career and job hunt.

Social media is influencing the recruitment process in a HUGE way.

Just a few takeaways from tonight's interview with:

JIM DURBIN, VP of Social Media, Durbin Media, specializing in social media consulting, web design & development and branding.

HARRY JOINER, THE Marketing Headhunter, EcommerceRecruiter.com

Yes Virginia, you DO need a resume
3% of people don't need a resume, their reputation preceeds them.  97% of people need some-thing. A resume, bio, web profile ... A resume gets you into the system and guides the discussion.

A resume isn't enough, you need online presence
Build an online profile.  Be targeted.  Focused.  Professional. Make sure you build "teachable points of view".

Let this be your guideline:  Include only what can be printed on the front page of the Wall Street Journal (or Globe and Mail).

    Build an editorial platform
Highlight what you know.  Link to relevant resources.  Don't stop there - keep growing and share it.

    An excellent example:

    Check it out!

Build relationships before you need a job
Social media is just that, it's social.  You'll have a much easier time making that next career move if you've built and nurtured your relationships first.

Know what you're great at online and offline
Figure this out first.  Otherwise, why would a recruiter or employer want to meet you,? Only you know what you're great at. Make your unknown, known.

    .. and more.  lots more!

If you really want to know what A-recruiters and consultants are looking for, I encourage you to check out the know-how and expertise of Jim and Harry:

    Harry Joiner:

READ what they have to say, join their blogs, follow them on networks.  They are easy to find.  Google them:)  They are social media-savvy. They've written brilliant blogs, tips, techniques, pearls of wisdom.

Get Found, Get Hired: Recruitment 2.0

The job hunt has changed folks!  It's time to sharpen your job search techniques and integrate an online presence and brand that hums with your talent.

That's exactly why I can't wait to interview my next guests, Jim Durbin and Harry Joiner

    Jim (
www.DurbinMedia.com) specializes in social media consulting, web design and development and branding.

    Harry (
www.HarryJoiner.com) specializes in integrated marketing and "new media", author of MarketingHeadhunter.com.

Combined these two are nothing short of brilliant.  They are in a league of their very own.

We will be talking about the new world of recruitment, how to build online profile and presence - and how to self promote to attract the right attention.

Don't just count on a resume in today's job hunt to differentiate. It's no longer enough. You need an integrated online and offline job search campaign that commands attention, creates the right pull and brings the right job to your doorstep.

    Get found, get hired.

Learning to Market YOU with Jose Dino

Wow, what an interview!  Jose shared a bushel full of strategic and practical elements when you are preparing your resume and application for your next job.

As a bonus:  Jose sprinkled in plenty of golden nuggets with regard to interview tips and how employers enhance their search with  social media tools.

There were so many takeaways, it's hard to narrow it down.  Here are a top 5:

    1.  Your resume is a marketing document - evoke feeling, it's marketing you!

    2.  Your resume needs to attract the employer (or recruiter) with style and substance - Know what you need to say, be concise!

    3.  Reflect your personal brand - online and offline.

    4.  Take initiative - a key attribute every employer is looking for.

    5.  Leverage technologies to enhance your application - yes, employers are googling you! AND they are looking for you on LinkedIn.

Listening to Jose "tell it like it is" is one thing.  Now I encourage you to take action.

Who do you want to work for?  Do your homework!
