    Chevrolet Cobalt XFE

After all of this, the 2009 Chevy Cobalt XFE only manages to eke out a measly 2-mpg improvement over the base Cobalt, which is already one of the more fuel-efficient cars you can buy. Though the fuel savings are miniscule, they come at a fairly high price. Since the XFE is available only in the base LS trim level, creature comforts are scarce. Say good-bye to modern conveniences you've become accustomed to, like power-operated anything, cruise control and keyless entry. Given these sacrifices, coupled with the very slight fuel savings, we find it hard to recommend the XFE over any other gas-sipper — including a more well-appointed Cobalt.(Bio Ryan Binkley)

    Honda Civic LX

We decided to test a 2008 Honda Civic to find out how well this latest Civic is faring in the marketplace. Our test car was a four-door, five-seat Civic LX sedan — a step above the base model. It comes standard with many features that are pretty much expected these days, such as antilock brakes, side and side curtain airbags, a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack. These features, along with impressive build quality, a fuel-efficient and peppy engine and plenty of cargo space make the 2008 Honda Civic LX a great all-around economy sedan.

    Performance

Having snagged the gold medal in this informal Olympics, the 2009 F-150 had its smart tranny and tow-friendly electronic gadgets to thank for its "no sweat" demeanor when doing grunt work. When in tow-haul mode, the gearbox held lower gears at the right moments, such as when ascending and descending steeper grades. The trailer sway control and integrated trailer braking kept the tail from wagging the dog, especially during harder braking when coming down a curved hill.

Now, with the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, it's possible to drive one of these beasts without upping the limit on your gas card or risking the scorn of your neighbors. And there are plenty of decals and emblems on this Tahoe to let everyone know that it is indeed a hybrid, furthering your chances of social acceptance. Ryan Binkley Bio

    2009 Hyundai Genesis test drive

The Genesis is the new full-size rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan from Hyundai. Available in two models -- V6-powered Genesis 3.8 and V8-powered Genesis 4.6 -- the Genesis carries a reassuringly long warranty, a mile-long list of luxury features, and an unbelievably cheap price tag. But is it a proper luxury car? And will anyone believe me if I say it is? Read on. Price range ,000 - ,000, EPA fuel economy estimates 17-18 MPG city, 25-27 highway.
