Bill Murray

"I have long felt that America has an untapped inner resource, her people," says Bill Murray, "whose contributions could be enormous if moderately supported. The universe responds when folks serve their communities, taking social service positions within them. All participation is important, and WHAT one does matters less than the fact that everyone can, and should, do SOMEthing. Community-based policing (policing with a small "p") means leaving something in better shape than you find it," Bill continues. "It's not just about public safety, although crime and it's prevention is certainly a prominent issue for LACP. But it also speaks to the many ways Americans can become involved in watching over each other, participating in self governance, lending a hand in neighborhood projects and improving the quality of life." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We're hoping you'll join us regularly for lively discussions and topics that matter .. to you and to your community.

Show Notes

"Community Matters" has two meanings. We'll discuss issues that concern the community, including local and current event topics, and encourage our participants and listeners to understand the important role volunteers and activists play. We can all make a difference on our block and neighborhood, in the towns and cities where we live, in our states, in our country and, finally, in today's world-wide "global village," on the lives of those around us, near and far.

(part 1 of 3) On this episode of "Community Matters" Bill Murray, once a severely abused child, begins to publicly tell his life story for the first time. Now that his parents have died he feels free to do so. Mr. Murray, a long time recovering alcoholic and drug addict, hopes that revealing his past will help explain his passion for serving the community and improve his effectiveness on both the forum he's founded here at LA Community Policing and the talk show he now hosts under it's umbrella. On LACP's "Community Matters" Bill advocates for members of society who are weak, vulnerable, innocent, socially outcast, abused, victims of crime, and the physically or mentally challenged. He often covers public safety topics such as domestic violence, child endangerment, missing people, homelessness, racism, victims rights, judicial reform and homeland security .. among many other things.

The topic for "Community Matters" tonight was the fear that has been recently heard about the cost-cutting plan to release prisoners early from CA state correctional facilities. Adding fuel to the fire was a case now being covered in the media in which the major players are a 50 year old man with numerous drug offenses, a parolee who was "sentenced" to a treatment facility, being accused of beating a 17 year old girl to death after allegedly robbing her. Bill Murray and Sandy Nazemi talked about how much less expensive it is to treat alcohol and drug offenders before they are released.
