Tonight's special guest is Felicia Johnson from Atlanta, a child abuse survivor and author of "Her: a novel inspired by loss." The story is about a seventeen year old girl named Kristen, a girl who suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder. She and her brother are survivors of child abuse. As Felicia explains, "The story was inspired by a childhood friend of mine, named Holly, who suffered from BPD. We were best friends. Holly lost her battle with depression and BPD when we were 15 years old and took her own life." Ms Johnson will talk about Borderline Personality Disorder and share her story (and Holly's). She continues, "This is a subject that I feel strongly about. It should be discussed, even though some may find it taboo and hard to talk about, it's necessary to create awareness about child abuse and mental health." According to Ms Johnson, the story is an example of how, if we try to push the past away, we are either doomed to repeat it or let it haunt us to our graves. Felicia is now studying Clinical Psychology. But she says, ".. writing brings out many relatable emotions and thoughts to share with others. I don't only write for myself, but I write for others. I try to always write with a purpose. It is as Maya Angelou said, ‘I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget with you did, but people will not forget how you made them feel.' I write to make my readers feel.” Follow Ms Johnson's BLOG.
