From freedom to fistfights, here we are. We speak with Christine Speer who recently published an article in Philadelphia (Daily Magazine) with the title: Could Philadelphia Become As Green And Progressive As Portland? “The conflict between the two wheels and the four wheels is now playing out daily, in blaring horns, in upraised middle fingers, in shouted curses, in vandalism, in deliberate cut-offs — and in the occasional police charges of assault, threat, and reckless endangerment. This bike thing is national — global, in fact. Cities are racing to be part of what the U.S. Department of Transportation declared in March to be “the end of favoring motorized transportation at the expense of non-motorized.” Staying in Philadelphia, Jim Strait talks about the legacy of Charlie Jaeger (National Stayer Champion U.S.A. 1931 and 1934) and track racing in the Philly area.
