    1.  Please note the high wind as indicated by the bent tree.  Mountain conditions can vary from virtual silence to so much wind noise you don't know what's going on around you.

    2.  Mt. Hood: notice the seemingly level lower slopes.  These are natural highways in the mountains.  Most of our mountains have Indian trails boxing them.

    3.  The mountain is about 40 airmiles from where I camped.  The only visible light in the whole scene is at Government Camp, Oregon.  Government Camp is at the tree line, center on Mt. Hood.  It's just a glow.  Above it, depending on the weather, you can see lights from Timberline Lodge.  Amazing.

    4.  Notice the "edges" in the photograph, especially in the logged areas.  Animals like edges!  Especially diurnal animals {early morning and late evening}.

    5.  Notice the high voltage powerline tower.  Powerlines are also natural highways through the mountains.  They generally follow the easiest route and are kept clear of brush.

    6.  There are several logging roads through the photograph.  To the unexperienced eye, they may be difficult to see.  Logging roads are most excellent for walking in the dark.  Repeat, in the dark - no lights allowed.  The technique is simple, something I learned in the military.

    7.  Behind me is a rock quarry {not the "High Rock Quarry" mentioned in George's site about our adventures.  Rock quarries are a big deal certain times of the year.

There's more to see in the photograph, but that's enough for now.  Please post the above points if it's easy to do so.  If you would like me to address them tomorrow night, please let me know.
