Singer-songwriters Dave McGraw and Mandy Fer chat with Big Blend Radio hosts Nancy J. Reid & Lisa D. Smith about their new album MARITIME, their national and international tour, living in a cabin on an island in Washington State, kayaking with Orcas, and more. Drawing on the nature around them, McGraw and Fer recorded MARITIME in their cabin on an island nestled between Seattle, WA and Victoria, British Columbia. Instead of leaving to record in a bustling city, McGraw and Fer decided to stay isolated at their seaside home, calling on kindred musicians and their producer to share in the experience.
McGraw and Fer met in Flagstaff, Arizona in 2010 before relocating to the Pacific Northwest in 2012. McGraw spent a decade as a wildlife biologist, studying endangered birds in remote locales from the deserts of Mexico and the Grand Canyon to the mountainous rain forests of Washington. Fer's musical pulse led her to Spain, where she studied music, language and local culture.
This interview originally aired on April 20, 2015 on Big Blend Radio's Nature Connection show, which broadcasted live from Ridgemark Golf & Country Club in Hollister, California.
