Since January 2012 alone, more than 103,000 elephants are thought to have been slaughtered by poachers. Official CITES figures, show that the rate of poaching has barely changed from 2013 to 2014. Wildlife law enforcement agents cannot keep up or compete with well-funded, violent, criminal networks that poach elephants and move ivory. National security is threatened by terrorist groups selling ivory for weapons. Adam Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA and Born Free Foundation, discusses Elephant and Rhino Conservation with Big Blend Radio hosts Nancy J. Reid & Lisa D. Smith. Born Free USA is a global leader in animal welfare and wildlife conservation. Through litigation, legislation and public education, Born Free USA leads vital campaigns against animals in entertainment, exotic “pets,” trapping and fur, and the destructive international wildlife trade.
