Rui Li is a certified personal trainer and the owner of New York Personal Training, a 360° health and fitness studio in the heart of Flatiron. She has written and consulted for a variety of publications, including Men’s Fitness, Verily, and Refinery29. Specializing in injury prevention and gait analysis, Rui has made it her mission to help people get out of pain and stiffness and unlock their inner athlete. Her experiences in the U.S. Army showed her that a well-functioning body can overcome just about any obstacle. Rui takes a holistic approach when assisting others in weight loss and overall health goals by working closely with other professionals on her team and within her network.

About our interview she says, "Every single one of us was born with the ability to be strong, agile, and mobile. We developed strength quite rapidly, but that development quickly comes to a screeching halt once we are regularly placed in seats and restrictive footwear. Over time, we develop dysfunctional movement patterns that eventually cause us pain and puts us at risk for injuries. By the time we hit our 40’s, it can feel like we are “getting old” because our joints feel crickety and our flexibility diminishes, but these are actually all quite fixable through intelligent, science-based training. People who have a history of foot pain, ankle sprains, back pain, IT band syndrome, and many more, are not simply unlucky--there is a precise biomechanic reason for why the body is not functioning optimally."
